VTech 80-531814 KidiZoom Video Studio HD Purple Kids’ Video Camera

For children who want to make their own videos, the VTech KidiZoom Video Studio HD combines a camera with creative tools for filming and editing. Its green screen lets them add interactive backgrounds and visual effects, including disappearing-object scenes. A fold-down lens makes it easy to frame selfies, while the mini tripod and hand strap support different ways of filming.

Highlights

The camera records video at up to 1280 x 720 px when used with a microSD card, and captures still photos at 5 MP. Photo effects are available at 2 MP. A 2.4-inch colour display gives children a built-in screen for framing shots, and the 4x digital zoom is available for photos. Time-lapse adds another way to make clips, while three games and 20 backgrounds offer more to explore between filming sessions.

After recording, children can use the child-friendly editing tools and add background music to their videos. The green screen is the standout feature for anyone keen to make imaginative scenes at home: set it up behind the subject, film in front of it, then choose an interactive background or effect. This makes the camera more focused on creating short, playful videos than on taking photos alone.

Getting the most from it

The camera has 256 MB of internal memory. For the highest listed video resolution, insert a microSD card, the card is sold separately. Video can also be recorded at 320 x 180 px or 640 x 360 px. This choice lets families decide how to use the available storage, with the card enabling 720p recording.

The rechargeable battery is included, and the supplied USB cable is used for charging and connecting the camera to a computer. The included green screen, mini tripod and hand strap help children get started with different filming setups. For safe use, the camera is not suitable for children under three, as it contains small parts that present a choking hazard.

Best use cases

KidiZoom Video Studio HD suits children who enjoy acting, making up stories or experimenting with effects. At home, they can set up the green screen, use the tripod to keep the camera in place and create a scene with one of the backgrounds. The selfie lens is handy for filming themselves, while time-lapse offers a different format for short projects. It can also serve as a first step into making and editing videos, with a child-friendly approach and music tools built in.

If the main goal is a straightforward camera for family photos, a basic digital camera is a different kind of choice. This model makes more sense when video creation, green-screen effects and playful editing are central to the activity.

Buying verdict

Choose the KidiZoom Video Studio HD for a child who wants more than a camera for snapshots. Its green screen, editing features, background music and time-lapse function give them several ways to shape their own clips, while the included tripod and hand strap support hands-on use. With a microSD card, it can record at 720p, making it a practical creative set-up for home video projects.
