SONGMICS Gndie/Ba9694 16-Cube Modular Storage Shelving Unit, 123 x 31 x 123 cm

If you need storage that can change with the room, this SONGMICS 16-cube unit offers more flexibility than a fixed layout. Its plug-in design lets you arrange the cubes in different shapes or use fewer cubes to make smaller shelving sections, while the full unit gives books, clothes, shoes and everyday household items their own places.

Use it as a freestanding display and storage unit in a bedroom or living room, or create a room divider to help organise an open area. The 123 x 31 x 123 cm footprint makes it a substantial storage feature without adding drawers or doors to the design.

Technical details

• Type: Freestanding, modular cube shelving unit
• Size: 123 x 31 x 123 cm
• Storage: 16 cubes, each measuring 30 x 30 x 30 cm
• Materials: Polypropylene panels and metal frame
• Maximum load: 10 kg per cube
• Included: Panels, connectors, mallet, anti-tipping hardware and instructions

The open cubbies keep stored items visible and easy to reach. Use them for folded clothes, shoes, books, toys or kitchen utensils, alternatively, style selected cubes with books and decorative pieces to create a display wall. The modular grid can also be reshaped into a tall ladder-style shelf, a corner arrangement or a slimmer unit to suit the space. Need a storage layout that can adapt as your room changes? The reconfigurable format makes that possible without committing to one permanent arrangement.

Requirements

Assembly is required. The unit is freestanding, and the included instructions guide the assembly. For safe use, fit the supplied anti-tipping hardware, as directed, and keep the unit secured against tipping. It is not suitable for children under three. Place items evenly across the cubes, each cube has a maximum load capacity of 10 kg. The panels can be wiped with a damp cloth, making routine care straightforward. For a longer service life, keep the unit indoors and away from strong sunlight and rain.

Tips for day-to-day use

Plan the layout around what you want to store: use lower cubes for shoes or heavier everyday items, and keep books, toys or accessories grouped in the remaining compartments. Distributing belongings across the unit also helps avoid concentrating weight in one spot for long periods. If your storage needs change, the plug-in construction lets you rearrange the shape or split the set into smaller shelving sections.

Customers often highlight the straightforward assembly, adaptable layout and useful capacity, with some also appreciating how the unit can make better use of awkward spaces. These are practical strengths for a hallway that needs tidying, a bedroom in need of open wardrobe storage, or a living room where display and storage need to share the same footprint.

Buying verdict

A solid pick if you want open, configurable storage rather than a single fixed arrangement. The 16 cubes provide distinct spaces for household essentials, while the option to reshape the unit makes it useful in bedrooms, living rooms and other areas where the layout may need to change. Its metal-supported frame, wipe-clean polypropylene panels and included anti-tipping hardware bring everyday practicality to a flexible shelving setup.
