Schmidt Spiele HiLo 49459 Card Game in a Metal Tin with Special Cards

Special cards add variety to HiLo’s simple aim: replace high cards in your display with lower ones, or clear complete rows, to finish with the fewest points. The game is quick to explain and play, so a group can get started without a long rules session. Its metal tin keeps the cards together between games.

For two to six players aged eight and over, HiLo suits a family game or a relaxed get-together. A game takes an estimated 20 minutes, making it easy to fit in a round when there is time for a short game rather than a longer board-game session.

Usage tips

Each player works to improve their display by swapping high-value cards for lower ones or removing full rows. Keep the aim in mind as the round develops: the player with the fewest points wins. A round ends when a player has revealed all their cards, so pay attention to the state of the game as well as your own display.

The quick-to-understand rules make it straightforward to bring new players into a game. With space for two to six people, it can work for a small group or a fuller table. The cards are listed in English, French, German and Italian, and the metal tin gives them a dedicated place when the game is put away.

Why it makes sense

HiLo offers a different kind of game night from a longer, rules-heavy board game: the focus is on a clear card-based objective, with special cards and distinctive mechanics adding variety. The estimated 20-minute playing time makes it a practical choice when the group wants a complete game in a shorter slot, and the quick explanation helps keep the start simple.

There is also a straightforward reason to play again. Players can try to lower their scores by changing their displays and clearing rows, while the special cards bring additional mechanics into the game. Whether you are choosing a game for a family evening or looking for something that can bring a group together without a lengthy introduction, what could be handier than a compact card game with a clear goal?
