ECOWITT GW1101 7-in-1 Wireless Weather Station with Solar Sensor and GW1100 Gateway

For a home or garden weather setup that brings several outdoor readings together, the ECOWITT GW1101 pairs a 7-in-1 wireless sensor array with an indoor GW1100 gateway. It measures conditions including temperature, humidity, wind, rainfall and UV/solar radiation.

The solar-powered outdoor array sends readings to the gateway, with updates every 16 seconds. Its 868 MHz wireless connection keeps the outdoor measurements linked to the indoor unit.

View data on a mobile phone using the Ecowitt app on iOS or Android. The gateway can also upload readings to the Ecowitt weather server for remote monitoring and to supported services including Weather Underground, Weathercloud and WOW.

Tips for day-to-day use

Use the station to keep an eye on changing conditions around the house and garden, rather than relying on a single temperature reading. Wind speed and direction, rainfall, outdoor temperature and humidity, plus UV and solar radiation readings, give a broader view when planning time outdoors or tending plants. The sensor data updates every 16 seconds, so the app can provide a current picture as conditions change.

The app provides access to readings on your home network and helps with configuring services. For remote monitoring, the station can upload data to the Ecowitt weather server. The outdoor unit is solar powered and requires two batteries, which are not included.

Strengths

The appeal of the GW1101 is the range of outdoor measurements in one connected system. Instead of building a garden setup around separate basic gauges, the integrated array brings wind, rain, temperature, humidity and solar readings together, then sends them to the GW1100 gateway. That makes it useful for keeping track of several aspects of local weather from indoors.

For example, before spending time in the garden, check the app for recent rainfall, wind and temperature readings. The station can also upload data to weather services, while the Ecowitt server offers graphs and downloadable history for looking back at changing conditions. Email alerts are available for sensors.

The gateway can be expanded with compatible Ecowitt sensors: up to 8 WN31/WH31 temperature and humidity sensors, up to 8 WH51 soil moisture sensors, and up to 4 WH41 PM2.5 air-quality sensors. This gives the setup room to gather additional readings around a home or garden.

Buyer feedback highlights the usefulness of the readings, ease of setup and app features. Experiences with Wi-Fi connectivity are mixed, so feedback on this point varies.

Before you decide

What does the outdoor array measure? It measures wind speed and direction, rainfall, outdoor temperature and humidity, UV and solar radiation.

Can readings be checked away from home? Yes. The app provides readings on the home network, and uploading data to the Ecowitt weather server enables remote monitoring.

Can the GW1100 work with additional sensors? Yes. It supports compatible Ecowitt temperature and humidity, soil moisture and PM2.5 sensors, with the supported quantities listed above.

Should you buy it?

Choose the GW1101 if you want a connected home-and-garden weather station that combines a broad set of outdoor readings with app access and online history. Its solar-powered sensor array and GW1100 gateway make it a practical fit for keeping tabs on local conditions and building out the system with compatible sensors.
