Sony wireless headphones WH-1000XM6
Product description
Commuting, working in a busy room or settling in for a focused listening session are the sorts of situations these headphones are designed for. The Sony WH-1000XM6 combine wireless listening with active noise cancellation, and their foldable design and compact case make them easier to take along than a full-size, non-folding pair.
They’re finished in Sand Pink, with sound and call features built around a dedicated processor and multiple microphones.
Technical details
The HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3 works with 12 microphones to adjust noise cancellation in real time. Sony says the processor is seven times faster than the QN1 used in the WH-1000XM5, that comparison describes the processor, not a guarantee that every listener will notice the same difference. For sound, the headphones use a specially designed driver with a lightweight carbon-fibre dome. The product description also says the tuning was developed with mastering audio engineers, with the aim of keeping vocals and instruments clear and balanced.
Battery life is listed as up to 30 hours. Treat that as a stated maximum rather than a promise of identical runtime in every situation. The available details don’t specify charging time or how particular listening settings affect battery life.
Getting the most from it
Noise cancellation is the main reason to consider this model over simpler wireless headphones. It’s intended to reduce surrounding sound while you listen, which can be useful on a noisy commute or when concentrating in a shared space. For example, you could fold the headphones into their case after a listening session, then bring them out for a call in a busy indoor setting. A six-microphone AI-based beamforming system, noise reduction and a wind-resistant design are intended to make your voice clearer in those conditions.
The trade-off is that the listed features don’t tell you how the fit will feel over a long day, or how well the cancellation will suit your particular environment. If comfort is your deciding factor, the information here isn’t enough to settle it.
Usage tips
Use the case when packing the headphones, the foldable design and magnetic closure are useful details for carrying them between home, work and transit. For calls, the microphone system is designed to isolate your voice and reduce background noise, but that doesn’t mean every noisy location will sound equally clear to the person on the other end.
It’s a good fit if you want wireless headphones that put noise cancellation, calls and portability together. It may not suit you if you’re choosing mainly by fit, or if you need specific connection, app or charging details that aren’t provided here.
Buying questions
Are these headphones wireless? Yes. The product name identifies them as wireless headphones, though the supplied details don’t state particular connection standards.
Can they be packed away for travel? They have a foldable design and come with a compact carrying case with a magnetic closure. The description doesn’t give the case’s dimensions.
What battery life is listed? Up to 30 hours. Actual runtime may vary, and no further usage conditions are stated.
Before you buy
Choose the WH-1000XM6 if active noise cancellation is a priority and you’ll make use of the foldable design, carry case and call-focused microphones. The QN3, 12-microphone system and stated battery life give you specific features to weigh against a more basic wireless pair. If your decision depends on exact fit, charging information or a particular connection feature, those details aren’t available here, so this description alone can’t confirm they’ll meet that need.
