Paradise Lost Ascension (US Digipak) Audio CD, 10-Track Metal Album
Product description
Heavy metal riffs meet soaring melody on Ascension, giving Paradise Lost listeners a varied album shaped by the band’s characteristic minor-key melancholy. Its ten tracks move across the group’s heavier and more melodic sounds, so the record offers more than one mood to explore.
Issued in 2025, this is Paradise Lost’s 17th album and their return five years after Obsidian. The US Digipak edition presents Ascension on Audio CD for a physical music collection.
Produced by guitarist Gregor Mackintosh, the album draws on the band’s long-running exploration of dark music, from doom-death weight to broad, atmospheric melodies.

Who it’s for
Ascension suits listeners who want metal with contrast: forceful riffs and doom-weighted passages alongside melodies that open up the sound. The ten-track album moves through several styles in the band’s musical range while holding onto a shadowy, minor-key atmosphere. That variety makes it a fitting choice for a focused album listen when you want shifts in intensity without leaving the dark, melodic character at the centre.
Paradise Lost have been active since forming in Halifax in 1988 and are recognised for helping pioneer gothic metal. Their catalogue has moved from early doom-death roots into more expansive and experimental territory, Ascension continues that varied approach rather than staying within one narrow metal sound. If you’re choosing between a record built around one consistent texture and an album that moves between heavy metal, doom and high-reaching melody, this release offers the latter kind of journey.
What you get
This edition is Ascension as an Audio CD in US Digipak format. Its ten tracks bring together the album’s range of full-bodied heaviness and melodic passages, with a melancholy thread tying the sequence together. Gregor Mackintosh produced the record at Black Planet studios in East Yorkshire, while drums and vocals were captured at NBS and Wasteland studios in Sweden. The production details reflect a project shaped across studios while keeping the band’s changing musical textures in focus.
The physical format is suited to listeners building a CD collection around landmark metal acts and current releases alike. It also makes Ascension a clear choice when you want Paradise Lost’s latest album as a tangible edition, rather than simply exploring the band through individual tracks.
Final verdict
For fans drawn to Paradise Lost’s darker side, Ascension brings ten tracks of weight, melody and minor-key atmosphere together on Audio CD. Its mix of heavy riffs and broader melodic passages gives listeners a varied entry into the band’s 2025 release, while the US Digipak format serves collectors looking to add the album to a physical music library.
