Koackl PV888CGA Propane Torch with Adjustable Flame and Igniter

Made with an ABS body, the Koackl PV888CGA is a handheld propane torch for cooking and outdoor fire-starting tasks. Its adjustable flame lets you tailor the heat to the job, from caramelizing desserts to lighting charcoal. Use it for BBQ preparation, campfires and select DIY projects. The propane canister is sold separately.

How to use it

Connect a propane canister and make sure the connection is tight before use. After connecting it, wait one minute to clear the air, then turn the knob between 45° and 90° to ignite, do not use the maximum-power button for ignition. Adjust the flame to suit the task, whether you’re melting cheese, searing food or starting a fire. For safe handling, follow the included manual, avoid continuous use for more than 1–2 minutes, and detach the canister after use for separate storage.

For a backyard BBQ, the torch can help light charcoal before cooking. In the kitchen, use the adjustable flame for finishing crème brûlée, charring vegetables or melting cheese. It also serves as a campfire starter and can be used for soldering and other DIY work. This makes it a practical alternative to keeping separate tools for culinary finishing and occasional fire-starting jobs.

Strengths

Flame adjustment is the central convenience: you can vary the heat for different tasks rather than relying on one fixed flame setting. The built-in igniter supports straightforward lighting, while the torch’s range of uses takes it from kitchen finishing to the grill or campsite. Its listed maximum temperature is 1800 °C, giving it the high-heat capability needed for searing and caramelizing.

Buyers often highlight its usefulness for campfires and lighting charcoal, along with its versatility across cooking and fire-starting tasks. Feedback on ignition and flame strength is mixed, and some buyers mention durability concerns, so careful setup and use according to the manual are important.
