Silkland S3657 USB4 USB-C Extension Cable, 40Gbps, 240W, 5 ft

Extending a desk setup from a laptop to a hub, monitor, or external SSD is easier when the connection also supports high-speed data and charging. The Silkland S3657 is a 5-ft USB-C male-to-female extension cable rated for up to 40Gbps and 240W, making it useful for adding reach without giving up the capabilities of a compatible USB4 or Thunderbolt setup.

Its braided cable and reversible female connector add practical touches for everyday connections. Choose an extension when you want more placement flexibility, for a setup that only needs a basic charging connection, a simpler cable may be all you need.

Key takeaways

The S3657 supports data transfer rates up to 40Gbps and charging up to 240W (48V/5A). It can also support a single display at 8K@60Hz or 4K@240Hz, or dual displays at 4K@60Hz, when the connected devices and hub support those modes. That makes it suited to setups where one cable run may handle storage, a dock, charging, or display connections.

The 5-ft length provides extra reach between a USB-C device and compatible peripherals. The cable uses a nylon braid, tinplate shielding, and an interior made with 86% tinned copper. An E-marker chip supports smart current matching. Buyers describe the cable positively for functionality and build, while feedback on connectivity and length is mixed, experiences can vary by setup.

Usage tips

Use the male USB-C connector at the device end and the female port for a compatible USB-C cable or accessory. The reversible female connector can be plugged in either orientation. Common uses include extending a connection to a USB-C hub, dock, monitor, or SSD, and adding reach to a compatible charging setup.

To use the advertised data rate or display mode, the connected devices, cable, and any hub in the signal path must support the feature. For stable high-bandwidth use, Silkland recommends keeping the total cable length between connected devices under 10 ft. This is especially useful to bear in mind when adding the extension to cables already in a desk or monitor setup.

How to use it

Connect the male end to a USB-C device, then connect a compatible cable or peripheral to the female end. For charging, pair it with a USB-C charger and device that support the desired power level, the extension supports up to 240W and also works with compatible lower-wattage USB-C charging equipment. For storage or a display, check that each device and any hub in the chain supports the intended data rate or resolution.

A practical example is placing a laptop on a desk while keeping a hub or external SSD within easier reach. The extension can bridge that distance while supporting data, charging, and video features available in the rest of the setup. Its braided construction is designed for repeated bending, with the manufacturer citing 15,000 bending tests.

Buying verdict

The Silkland S3657 is a strong fit for USB-C setups that need a 5-ft extension and may carry more than a basic charging connection. Its combination of 40Gbps data support, up to 240W charging, and high-resolution display options makes it especially relevant for users extending a compatible dock, SSD, or monitor connection. Match the cable with devices and hubs that support the features you plan to use, and it can bring useful flexibility to a desktop or home workstation.
