Product description

At 211 × 94 × 47 mm and 450 g, the Revopoint MetroY Ultra is a portable 3D scanner built around blue laser and structured-light capture. Its size and battery grip make it relevant for both bench work and scans away from a fixed workstation.

The scanner offers five modes for different capture needs, from fast scans across larger areas to fine details and deep holes. Stated single-frame precision reaches 0.01 mm, while volumetric accuracy is listed as 0.015 mm + 0.04 mm × L (m).

That combination puts it closer to a measurement-focused workflow than a scanner intended only to create a quick visual model. The Standard edition does not include the separately sold carbon-fiber ball plates used for the CMM accuracy-verification feature.

The MetroY Ultra combines 34 blue cross-laser lines, 15 parallel laser lines, a single laser line, full-field blue structured light, and automatic turntable scanning. These modes serve different tasks: cross-lines are intended for rapid capture, parallel lines for fine detail, and the single line for deep holes. Full-field structured light supports marker-free scanning, while turntable mode adds an automated option for suitable objects.

The listed fused point distance is up to 0.05 mm. Scanning speed is stated as up to 90 fps with an NVIDIA GPU or 60 fps with a CPU, so the higher figure depends on the computer used. Revo Metro software is included for point-cloud editing, model processing, and alignment. Exports include PLY, OBJ, STL, ASC, 3MF, GLTF, and FBX.

System requirements deserve attention before choosing it. The product details list Windows minimums of an Intel i7 13th Gen or AMD Ryzen 7 5800, 32 GB RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 with 8 GB. The technical specifications give higher recommended requirements: an Intel i9 12th Gen or better, 64 GB RAM, and an NVIDIA RTX 4060 with 8 GB or better. The listed macOS minimums are M2 Pro and 16 GB RAM, recommended requirements are M4 Pro or better and 24 GB RAM.

Who it’s for

This scanner is aimed at people who need more than a rough shape for a screen or basic 3D print. Its stated precision and multiple capture modes suit dimensional inspection, reverse engineering, and industrial modeling where capturing geometry matters. A home maker focused on occasional, uncomplicated visual scans may prefer a simpler workflow, the MetroY Ultra’s stated computer requirements point to a more capable setup.

How to use it

Choose a scanning mode to match the object and the detail you need. The scanner’s working distance is listed as 200–400 mm, with single-capture areas ranging from 152 × 138 mm at 200 mm to 332 × 276 mm at 400 mm. For mobile work, Wi-Fi 6 connectivity and the 5,500 mAh battery grip support wireless scanning, the stated battery runtime is about 2.5 hours. Outdoor scanning is specified for sunlight up to 100,000 lux.

Surface preparation is not the same for every mode or object. The product highlights direct scanning of dark, glossy, and metallic components without spray, but its detailed guidance recommends spray for transparent or specular surfaces in laser-line modes, and for transparent, black, specular, or highly reflective surfaces in full-field structured-light mode. Check the mode-specific guidance for the surface at hand rather than assuming spray is never needed.

Practical questions

Can it capture without markers? Yes. Full-field blue structured light is specified for marker-free scans, other tracking methods include marker, global marker, and feature tracking.

Does it scan color? Color scanning is listed only for Auto Turntable Mode, so color capture is not described as available across every scanning mode.

Can it verify accuracy in real time? The CMM Edition description explains real-time verification with CMM-certified carbon-fiber ball plates. Those plates are sold separately for the MetroY Ultra Standard Edition.

When it makes sense

It makes sense if your work calls for several scanning approaches, measurement-oriented capture, and the option to scan away from a cable or power outlet. For a practical choice between quick visual modeling and more demanding inspection or reverse engineering, consider whether you will use the precision claims and whether your computer meets the stated requirements. It may not suit you if you want color scanning in every mode or need the CMM ball plates included with the Standard edition.
