Plein Sommeil by Jacques Duvall & Benjamin Schoos, Vinyl Album

Presented in vinyl format, Plein Sommeil brings Jacques Duvall and Benjamin Schoos together for a duo album shaped by reflection, tenderness, and dry wit.

The songs turn to slowness, worn-out love, and everyday fatigue, offering a thoughtful counterpoint to a fast-moving routine.

With original compositions alongside delicate covers, the album connects a distinct songwriting partnership with familiar material from The Kinks, Higelin, and Daho.

What stands out

Plein Sommeil grew from the reunion of lyricist Jacques Duvall and producer Benjamin Schoos, ten years after their previous collaboration. Their partnership brings together different generations and creative sensibilities in a collection centered on fragility, humanity, and the value of slowing down. Rather than framing its themes as a simple escape, the album looks directly at the pressures of modern life and answers them with gentle, poetic songs.

That approach gives the record a clear identity for listeners drawn to reflective songwriting with an ironic edge. The mood balances melancholy with tenderness and elegance, so the themes of fatigue and worn-out love are presented with nuance rather than heaviness. For a listening choice focused on atmosphere and words, it offers a different experience from a playlist built around quick, high-energy tracks.

Highlights

The album combines new compositions with delicate interpretations of songs associated with The Kinks, Higelin, and Daho. That mix makes it relevant both to listeners exploring Duvall and Schoos’s collaboration and to those interested in hearing familiar songwriting through a different artistic lens. The covers sit alongside original material as part of one coherent project, rather than defining the album on their own.

The recording involved Bertrand Burgalat and The Loved Drones, with lush string arrangements contributing to the album’s handcrafted, timeless aesthetic. Its guiding idea, “Slow business,” reflects the songs’ resistance to speed and emptiness. Together, the writing, arrangements, and measured perspective make the record suited to attentive listening, whether you want to follow its lyrical themes or simply settle into its reflective mood.

Everyday use

Choose this vinyl album when you want a focused record for a quieter part of the day, or when you are looking for music that gives lyrics and atmosphere room to unfold. Its themes of slowness and everyday strain also make it a fitting choice for listeners who prefer a contemplative album to background music designed primarily for energy.
