Ectovoid Dark Abstraction Vinyl Reissue, 10th-Anniversary Death Metal Album

The vinyl format gives Dark Abstraction a natural place in a dedicated album-listening session, while Ectovoid’s cavernous, chaotic death metal brings a distinctly atmospheric edge. Originally released in 2015 and reissued with Boris Records for its 10th anniversary, this edition revisits the band’s early work and honors guitarist M.S. in the liner notes.

At 35 minutes, it’s a focused listen for fans drawn to death metal with an expansive, otherworldly character.

Practical tips

Set aside time to hear the record in sequence: its eight tracks move through a consistent dark atmosphere, from “Obscure Altars” and “Visions of Reflective Decay” to “Spawned from Unending Mystery.” The vinyl format suits listeners who prefer putting on a full album rather than selecting individual tracks for a quick playlist. A turntable is the practical way to play this record.

The track names also give a useful sense of the album’s mood before listening. “Precipice of Absolute Chaos,” “Rituals of Hallucination,” and “The Expanse Between Slumber and Death” point toward the record’s unsettling, immersive themes. Choose it for a concentrated session when you want a complete death metal album with a strong sense of atmosphere.

What you’ll notice day to day

Dark Abstraction is rooted in death metal, but its appeal is not limited to speed or aggression. The album is described as cavernous and cacophonous, with a rapturous quality that gives the music a more expansive feel. Ectovoid draw on a broad range of death metal influences, including Incantation, Demilich, and Immolation, alongside Demoncy and KTHRSS. That lineage helps place the record for listeners exploring the genre’s darker, more unusual corners.

For a listener choosing between a short selection of familiar tracks and a complete album with its own atmosphere, this reissue favors the full-album experience. Its 35-minute runtime makes that listening commitment clear, and the eight-track sequence offers a compact way to revisit Ectovoid’s original 2015 release.

Key takeaways

This is a Boris Records vinyl reissue of Ectovoid’s Dark Abstraction, released to mark the album’s 10th anniversary. The record contains eight tracks and runs 35 minutes. Its dark, cavernous death metal style suits listeners who want an atmospheric album rather than a general introduction to multiple genres. The liner notes also pay tribute to guitarist M.S., connecting the reissue to the band’s history.

Is it worth it?

A solid pick if you want Ectovoid’s 2015 album in vinyl format and are drawn to death metal with a cavernous, chaotic atmosphere. The anniversary reissue brings the complete eight-track sequence together with liner-note context honoring M.S., making it a fitting choice for focused listening or for adding a distinctive, dark-edged death metal record to a collection.
