D'Addario NYXL Bass Guitar Strings, Medium 50-105, 4-String Nickel-Plated

Bass players looking for a medium 50-105 set for a 4-string instrument can consider the D'Addario NYXL series. These are uncoated bass strings with nickel-plated steel wrap wire. Their design emphasizes tuning stability, strength, and a more pronounced tonal response. The gauge and material make this a specific choice, rather than a universal replacement for every bass setup.

Tech summary

D'Addario combines a NY Steel core with nickel-plated steel wrap wire and a reengineered core-to-wrap ratio. The maker says this construction is intended to improve tuning stability and break strength compared with standard bass strings, while retaining a familiar feel and accentuating harmonics. Those are design claims, not a guarantee of a particular result on every instrument.

Buyer feedback is positive about the sound and overall quality, with one buyer specifically highlighting the E and A strings. Those impressions can help set expectations, but they do not establish how the strings will sound on a particular bass or through a particular rig.

Usage tips

Before switching, compare the 50-105 medium gauge with the strings currently on your bass and the feel you want under your fingers. That makes the set easier to assess than choosing by tonal descriptions alone. For example, a player replacing strings on a 4-string bass who wants a familiar-feeling set with an emphasis on tuning stability can use the gauge and construction as practical decision points.

The strings are uncoated, so this is not a coated-string set. If coated strings are an essential preference, the NYXL description does not meet that requirement. D'Addario also names Fusion Twist technology as part of the construction, alongside the NY Steel core and nickel-plated wrap wire.

How to use it

Choose this set for a bass guitar, and use the stated medium 50-105 gauge to confirm it matches the replacement set you have in mind. The product information does not provide installation instructions, so it is best to follow the guidance for your instrument when changing strings rather than assume a particular setup procedure.

The recyclable, resealable VCI bag has a code that can be registered for Players Circle points. The strings are made in the United States, according to the product information. These details may matter if you value the registration program or manufacturing location, but they do not replace checking that the gauge and four-string format suit your bass.

When it makes sense

You’ll appreciate it if you want medium-gauge, nickel-plated bass strings and value the stated focus on tuning stability, strength, and harmonics. This set is a more specific fit than choosing strings only by a general promise of a brighter or louder sound: it gives you a defined gauge, material, and 4-string format to compare with your current setup. D'Addario describes NYXL as its premium uncoated bass string, while customer impressions also point to sound quality as a positive. It’s not for you if you need strings for a different instrument or a gauge other than medium 50-105, within these limits, the key decision is whether this particular feel and uncoated construction suit your playing needs.
