Product description

For aquariums from 80 to 200 gallons, the AquaMiracle SV-1200 combines a filter sponge with a built-in UV light to address floating debris and green water. Choose aeration or rainfall mode to suit your tank’s circulation needs. A timer lets you schedule the light independently of the pump.

How it fits

Designed for fish tanks in the 80–200 gallon range, this filter brings filtration, water movement, and aeration together in one unit. The sponge captures uneaten food, fish waste, and plant debris, while the UV light targets free-floating algae. That combination suits aquarium owners looking to manage green water as part of regular tank care.

Use aerating mode when you want added oxygenation: an air venturi and adjustable tubing let you control airflow. Rainfall mode sends filtered water through a spray bar, creating gentle surface agitation and distributing water around the aquarium. For example, you can select rainfall mode for everyday circulation or switch to aeration when extra oxygenation is useful. The choice of modes makes this a different approach from a filter focused only on debris capture.

What you’ll notice day to day

The timer offers 4-, 8-, 12-, and 24-hour settings for the UV light, it does not control the pump. An observation window on the housing makes it easy to see whether the built-in light is operating. The included sponge can be rinsed during maintenance, helping remove the debris it has collected.

The UV light works on algae suspended in the water. Algae attached to aquarium glass or other surfaces needs to be removed manually. The manufacturer advises continuous operation for best results and says visible improvement typically takes 1–2 weeks, depending on algae levels and tank conditions. Buyers often highlight its use for green water and floating algae, feedback on water flow is mixed, which is relevant when choosing between an aerating setup and the spray-bar mode.

Before you decide

Does the timer switch the pump on and off? No. Its 4-, 8-, 12-, and 24-hour settings control the UV light only, the pump is not controlled by the timer.

Will the UV light remove algae from the glass? It targets free-floating algae in the water. Algae on glass and other surfaces must be removed manually.

How often should the sponge and UV bulb be replaced? The manufacturer recommends replacing the sponge every 2–3 months and says the UV bulb lasts about 12 months. Rinse the sponge during maintenance to clear collected debris.

Is it worth it?

For aquariums within its stated size range, the SV-1200 is a practical fit when green water and circulation are both part of the care routine. The sponge, built-in timed UV light, and two water-flow modes give you several functions in one filter, with the option to tailor water movement to your setup.
