NEEWER 62mm Natural Night Filter for City Skies

This 62mm night filter from NEEWER reduces urban light pollution so you can capture clearer night-city and skyline images with truer contrasts and minimal overexposure. It is aimed at photographers shooting cityscapes, architectural night scenes or star trails in light-polluted areas and helps retain detail while avoiding the typical yellow or green cast from street lighting.

Key Points

The filter reduces the visible effect of sodium and mercury vapour lighting, helping foregrounds and sky details stand out more. It screws directly onto lenses with a 62mm thread and comes with a protective box and a lens cleaning wipe for maintenance. According to the manufacturer, the glass delivers high transmission without introducing a colour cast, which is useful when you want faithful colour reproduction in long exposures. Consider that this filter only fits lenses marked with a 62mm diameter.

Benefits

Using the NEEWER Night Filter helps cut stray urban light that otherwise creates haze and reduces contrast. Photographers will notice cleaner midtones and clearer delineation in shadow areas when shooting buildings or skylines after dusk. The anti-reflective coatings reduce internal reflections during long exposures, while the oleophobic treatment makes it easier to wipe off fingerprints and smears. The lack of a colour cast preserves the original colour balance, so you avoid extra post-processing to correct tints.

Usage Recommendations

Mount the filter by matching the Ф62 mark on your lens barrel and screw it on gently to avoid cross-threading. For best results in city environments, combine the filter with manual exposure control and a tripod to manage longer shutter speeds and capture finer detail. When photographing faint stars or aurora from within urban areas, try bracketing exposures to find the balance between foreground illumination and sky detail. Keep the included wipe handy to maintain the coatings, and store the filter in its box when not in use to protect it from scratches.

Note that while the neodymium glass and coatings reduce many common sources of colour contamination and flare, very strong coloured lighting and extreme light sources may still affect final images. According to the manufacturer, the filter performs best with lenses that accept 62mm threads and in conditions where light pollution is moderate rather than overwhelming.
