Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 16 GB e-reader, 7-inch glare-free display, black

Choosing an e-reader for quick reading breaks is different from settling in for a long novel. The Amazon Kindle Paperwhite brings a larger, glare-free 7-inch display to both kinds of reading. This certified refurbished, black, 16 GB model is the With Ads version.

Practical tips

Adjust the display from white to amber to suit the light around you, whether you are reading in bright sunshine or settling down in a dark room. The glare-free screen helps keep pages clear as you move between settings, while the slim design is ready to travel in a bag or be carried between rooms. For a quiet reading session, the Kindle has no social media, notifications or other distracting apps, so attention stays on the book.

A typical use might be picking up a novel during a commute, then continuing at home without needing a different device or reading setup. The larger display gives text a generous reading area, and the adjustable colour tone lets you tailor the screen to the time and place.

Benefits

Page turns are 25% faster than on the previous Paperwhite generation, and the display has a higher contrast ratio. These changes make moving through a book feel more immediate and help text stand out clearly. The 7-inch screen also offers more display area while remaining part of an ultra-thin design, a useful combination for readers who want a larger page without giving up portability.

A single USB-C charge lasts up to 12 weeks, supporting long stretches of reading between charges. The Kindle is waterproof, so you can take your book poolside or read in the bath. Together, these features make it straightforward to keep a novel close at home or while travelling, in varied light and settings.

What to know

The 16 GB capacity identifies this model, and the adjustable display shifts from white to amber. Kindle Store access gives you a choice of millions of titles, a Kindle Unlimited subscription can provide access to even more content. With Ads is part of this product’s stated version, while certified refurbished identifies its condition as sold.

This Paperwhite is a focused e-reader rather than a general-purpose screen: its reading experience is centred on books, without social media, notifications or other distracting apps. That makes it suited to readers who value a dedicated space for reading, those looking for a device for a broader range of apps have a different set of priorities.

Before you decide

Can I read in different lighting? Yes. The display can be adjusted from white to amber for reading in bright sunlight or in the dark, and its glare-free design helps keep pages clear.

How often will it need charging? A single charge via USB-C lasts up to 12 weeks, giving you extended reading time between charges.

Can I use it near water? The Kindle is waterproof and described as suitable for reading by the pool or in the bath.

Is it worth it?

If you want a dedicated e-reader for novels at home and on the move, the Paperwhite combines a portable, glare-free 7-inch screen with adjustable white-to-amber lighting, faster page turns and long battery life. Its waterproof design adds flexibility for reading in more places, while Kindle Store access makes a large choice of books available from the device. It suits you if a focused reading experience, rather than a screen for social media and other apps, is the priority.
