Schleich 72175 Wild Life Black T-Rex Dinosaur Figure

For children aged three and over who love dinosaurs, the Schleich 72175 Black T-Rex adds a recognisable prehistoric character to playtime and dinosaur collections.

Its black finish gives the figure a distinctive look, while the T-Rex shape makes it easy to bring into dinosaur adventures and imaginative play.

Choose it as a focused single-figure addition rather than a larger collection: it can take centre stage in a story or join other dinosaur toys already at home.

What to know

This Wild Life figure represents a Black T-Rex and is made from plastic. It arrives ready for play, with no assembly required, so children can move straight from opening it to creating their own prehistoric scenes. The manufacturer recommends it for ages three and up.

The T-Rex’s characterful design suits both storytelling and display among dinosaur figures. Children can invent an expedition, imagine the dinosaur moving through its habitat or make it the main character in a wider prehistoric adventure. That open-ended format gives them room to direct the story themselves, rather than following a fixed sequence of play.

Buyers often praise the figure’s detailed, realistic appearance and find it engaging for children. Some also appreciate that its jaw opens and closes. Feedback on its size is mixed, so it may be useful to consider how it will sit alongside the other figures in a child’s collection.

Best use cases

This figure works well for indoor imaginative play, whether a child is building a dinosaur scene on the floor or adding a T-Rex to an existing collection. Its single-character format is a practical choice when the aim is to introduce one distinctive dinosaur, rather than buy a multi-figure set. It can also provide a starting point for conversations about animals and dinosaurs while children create their own adventures.

What could make a one-figure choice more useful than a larger set? For a child with a favourite dinosaur, a Black T-Rex offers a clear focal character for play, and it can be combined with other toys already available to create a bigger scene over time.

Getting the most from it

Let the child choose the setting and give the T-Rex a role in the story: it might be exploring, searching for food or meeting other dinosaurs. Open-ended play encourages children to shape events, solve simple story problems and develop their own ideas. For a shared activity, an adult can join in by asking where the dinosaur is going or what it might encounter, leaving the child to decide what happens next.

The figure can also be used as a collection piece between play sessions. Placing it with other dinosaur figures makes it easy to return to the same prehistoric world and build new stories around familiar characters. With its black colour and recognisable T-Rex form, it also stands out as a distinct addition to a dinosaur-themed collection.

Is it worth it?

For a young dinosaur enthusiast, the Schleich 72175 offers a straightforward way to add a Black T-Rex to everyday play: it is ready to use, has a distinctive appearance and supports stories children can invent for themselves. It suits families looking for one character to complement an existing dinosaur collection, as well as a focused gift for a child aged three or over who wants a T-Rex at the heart of their adventures.
