The essentials
Songs In The Key Of Life was originally released in 1976. This Motown vinyl edition is described as a 2 LP + 7-inch set, with 21 tracks. The collection features “Sir Duke” and “Isn’t She Lovely”, making it a practical choice for listeners who want a substantial album to play at home rather than a short selection of individual tracks.
The varied blend of soul, funk, jazz and pop gives the record a wide musical scope. It suits focused listening, putting on during a relaxed evening, or revisiting a classic album from start to finish. For a collection centred on Stevie Wonder, it also brings together a notable body of his work in one set.
Best use cases
Choose this set for listening to the album on vinyl, adding a landmark Stevie Wonder release to a record shelf, or giving a music fan a substantial album collection. It offers a different approach from buying a single or a short compilation: the focus here is the breadth of the full 21-track album, with two LPs and a 7-inch record in the set.
If you enjoy records that move between styles, the mix of soul, funk, jazz and pop gives each side a distinct part in a wider listening session. The well-known tracks provide familiar starting points, while the full tracklist makes it possible to explore beyond the best-known songs.
Usage tips
Set aside time to listen through the album in sequence, or choose a side to suit the moment. Handle the vinyl by its edges and return each record to its sleeve after playing to help keep the playing surfaces clear of fingerprints and dust. A turntable is the essential part of a vinyl listening setup, follow its own instructions for placing and playing records.
The 2 LP + 7-inch format makes this a set for listeners who enjoy the physical format as well as the music. Keep the records together so the complete collection is easy to return to for another play.
