AOOWU 5020224 Fine Mesh Garden Insect Netting, 3x6m PE Cover

Worth noting

For a vegetable bed that needs protection from butterflies and other garden pests, this 3x6m net provides a flexible cover over crops. The lightweight polyethylene mesh can be laid directly over plants or used as a row cover. If you are choosing between a fixed frame and a sheet you can trim to fit different beds, this cut-to-size format offers a practical alternative. Its fine 0.38mm mesh lets air, water and light pass through while helping keep insects and birds away from vegetables, fruit and flowers.

The mesh is designed for everyday garden care as well as crop protection: you can water and apply liquid fertiliser through it, and keep an eye on plant growth without lifting the cover. Its permeable structure supports airflow and moisture reaching the plants, while the material also helps reduce strong light. Made from polyethylene, the net is lightweight, reusable and UV-resistant, making it suitable for use across the growing season.

Usage tips

Lay the net over plants or newly sown areas, leaving enough room beneath it for crops to grow. Secure the edges by burying them or using stakes, clips or net nails, so there are no gaps around the bed. This helps maintain a barrier while still allowing access to water and liquid feed through the mesh. If your bed or crop area has a different shape, the net can be cut to the size you need.

Getting the most from it

Use the cover on raised beds, garden rows, in greenhouses, or around fruit and flower crops where a lightweight barrier is useful. The 3x6m sheet gives you material to cover a growing area and adapt the fit to your layout. For a simple setup, place it over the crop after planting or sowing, secure the perimeter, and leave space for the plants to develop. The mesh also makes it possible to observe growth without opening the cover for routine checks.

This approach is useful when you want to protect crops without building a permanent enclosure. It helps create a physical barrier against butterflies, aphids, flies and other small pests, as well as birds and rabbits, while still allowing air and moisture through. The stated air permeability is 95% and light transmittance is 90%, so the net is designed to retain airflow and light access as part of its protective function.

Practical questions

Can I water the plants without removing the net? Yes. Water and liquid fertiliser can be applied through the mesh, so routine feeding and watering can continue with the cover in place.

How should I secure it over a bed? Bury the edges or use stakes, clips or net nails around the perimeter. Leave enough space above the plants for growth and secure the edges to close gaps.

Can I trim the net to suit my garden layout? Yes. The polyethylene net can be cut to the size you need, making it adaptable for beds and crop areas with different dimensions.

Is it worth it?

For gardeners looking for a flexible cover rather than a fixed barrier, the AOOWU net combines a 3x6m cut-to-fit sheet with a fine mesh that allows air, water and light through. It is suited to protecting vegetables, fruit and flowers while keeping everyday watering and feeding straightforward.
