Yamamoto Soft Plastic Fishing Lure, 5-inch

The 5-inch Double Tail Hula Grub pairs a compact profile with a free-flowing skirt, giving anglers a smaller soft-plastic option when bass are pressured or the water is relatively small. Its design is intended for use on a small jig head, and the product details describe it as suitable for shallow, mid-depth and deep fishing.

That range makes it a flexible lure to consider, though the right presentation will still depend on the water and conditions you’re fishing.

Getting the most from it

Rigging it on a small jig head is the suggested starting point. For a practical example, you could work it through a smaller body of water where a bulky bait feels out of place, or use it when bass have seen plenty of lures. The free-flowing skirt gives the bait its distinctive profile, the information provided doesn’t specify a particular retrieve, jig-head weight or hook size, so those choices are left to your setup and conditions.

Its stated depth range is broad, but that doesn’t mean one rig will suit every situation. If you’re fishing deeper water, the jig head and presentation matter, for shallows, a more controlled approach may be useful. Te conviene si you want a compact grub-style bait that can be fished at different depths. If you prioritise a simple, small-profile option, this has a clear use case, if you prefer a larger bait or need detailed rigging guidance included, the listing doesn’t provide that level of detail.

Why it’s worth it

The main appeal is the combination of a smaller Hula Grub profile and a skirt designed to move freely, rather than simply choosing a larger, more conspicuous lure. That can make it worth considering for pressured bass or smaller waters, particularly when you want one bait format for shallow through deeper presentations. The description also says the design retains the fish-catching qualities of the original, but that is a manufacturer claim, not a guarantee of bites.

The product name identifies a 10-pack, which gives you multiple baits in the pack. Eight colours are described as available, but the supplied details don’t establish which colour this particular option includes. Better to avoid it if you need the colour or exact rigging components confirmed before buying, those specifics aren’t stated here.

At a glance

• Type: Double Tail Hula Grub soft plastic fishing lure
• Size: 5 inches
• Pack: 10
• Suggested setup: small jig head
• Intended use: bass fishing in shallow, mid-depth and deep water
• Colour choice: eight colours are described as available, the selected pack colour isn’t identified in the supplied details

The compact profile is the point of difference from a bulkier soft-plastic bait. That makes it a more targeted choice for smaller waters or pressured fish, while anglers looking for a lure with documented hook, material or colour details may want more information before settling on it.

When to choose it

Choose this Yamamoto grub if a compact bait for bass is what you’re after and you’re comfortable selecting a jig head and presentation to suit the water. The stated versatility across depths is useful when your fishing spot changes from shallow edges to deeper areas, but it isn’t a substitute for a purpose-specific setup when you need precise rigging details.

The practical decision is less about expecting a guaranteed bite and more about whether this shape suits your conditions. If you’re fishing pressured bass or a smaller body of water, its downsized profile is the clearest reason to consider it. If colour selection is important, confirm the available option first, since the product information lists colour variety without naming the colour in this pack.
