Smart Bird Feeder Camera 2.5L

Where it shines

When a standard feeder only gives you a quick glimpse of a bird, it can be hard to see how it feeds or pick out its markings. This model places a 5MP 3K camera outside the feeder body, aiming for a wider view of the perch and feeding area rather than a tight close-up.

Its 153° horizontal field of view is intended to capture more of each visitor, including its wings, tail and feeding movements. From indoors, you can check the live view on your phone and receive PIR arrival alerts. Colour night vision is also included, though the listing does not describe how night-time image detail compares with daytime footage.

The feeder holds 2.5L across two seed compartments, so you can offer different blends at once and make fewer refill trips than with a smaller, single-compartment setup. For example, you could check the semi-transparent hopper before heading outside, then top it up through the large rear-opening lid when levels are low. An included hummingbird feeder and clear accessory tray add other ways to attract visitors.

Quick overview

The external camera records at 2960 × 1666 resolution and has AI bird recognition for more than 11,000 species. That recognition includes a one-month free trial, continued use requires a subscription, so it is worth factoring that into your decision if identification is the main draw. The feeder also supports live viewing and PIR alerts, with up to three family members able to watch the stream at the same time.

Power can come from the built-in 3W solar roof or the included 3W external solar panel, which can be positioned up to 3 metres away. The rechargeable battery is rated at 5200mAh. The separate panel gives you more placement flexibility when the feeder itself sits in shade, but solar charging still depends on getting the panel into a brighter spot. Without having tested it, the useful distinction here is its flexible charging setup, not a guarantee that you will never need to recharge it.

For saved footage, there is free three-day cloud storage or local recording to a MicroSD card up to 128GB, the card is not included. The camera works with 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only. It is rated IP65 for weather resistance and includes hardware for tree, wall and bracket mounting.

Care and maintenance

The modular parts detach for routine cleaning, and the sloped seed outlet and fast-draining feeding area are designed to reduce trapped water and leftover seed. That should make ordinary upkeep more manageable than with a feeder built as one difficult-to-access piece, but it still needs periodic cleaning. A semi-transparent hopper helps you spot low seed without opening it, and the rear lid provides access for refilling.

It suits you if you want a connected feeder with a fuller camera view, room for two seed blends and more than one solar placement option. If you prioritise a simple feeder without app features, subscriptions or Wi-Fi requirements, a basic non-camera model is a more straightforward approach. You may want to avoid it if your home network does not support 2.4GHz Wi-Fi or you do not want to manage a MicroSD card or cloud storage.

To wrap up

Choose this feeder if watching and identifying backyard birds from indoors is part of the appeal, and the external side camera and 2.5L capacity match your setup. The AI trial is not a permanent free feature, and the camera depends on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, so those are meaningful trade-offs rather than minor details. If you mainly need somewhere to put seed and do not care about live viewing or recording, the added camera and connected features may not justify the extra setup involved.
