Firstrend outdoor security camera system, 2K

Keeping an eye on a driveway, front door or backyard is easier when a camera does not need a nearby power outlet. This Firstrend kit includes two outdoor cameras with rechargeable batteries and solar panels, so there are no power cables to run to each camera.

It records in 2K and includes colour night vision with a built-in spotlight. Motion alerts, two-way audio and a remotely activated siren add options for responding when you are away from home.

If you prioritise avoiding a monthly storage fee, local recording may appeal, if you prefer a system that depends on cloud storage, this kit takes a different approach. Its included SD card and expandable storage are intended to keep footage on site.

Getting the most from it

Place the cameras where they have a useful view of the areas you want to monitor, such as a side path or garage approach, and where the solar panels can support charging. The kit is wire-free at the camera, but it still relies on a Wi-Fi connection for remote viewing and phone alerts. The listing says it supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi, actual coverage will depend on the network and camera placement.

When motion is detected, you can receive an alert and use the O-Kam Pro app to view the camera, speak through its microphone and speaker, or activate the spotlight and siren. For example, if a delivery arrives while you are out, two-way audio gives you a way to respond without being at the door. This is more interactive than a camera intended only to record clips for later.

Why it’s worth it

The included 32GB SD card means local recording is part of the kit, rather than an extra storage purchase to make before you can start. Storage can be expanded up to 512GB, and the system supports up to six cameras if you later want to add coverage. The two-camera bundle is a practical starting point for watching separate areas without buying a larger system at the outset.

Based on the listing, there is no subscription fee for using the local storage. That may suit buyers who want to avoid an ongoing cloud plan, though it also means thinking about how much footage you want to keep and whether the included card is enough for your needs. Solar charging reduces the need for frequent manual charging, but the listing does not specify how much sunlight is needed or how long the batteries last.

Key features

The cameras record 2K QHD video and offer colour night vision with a spotlight, which can make activity easier to distinguish in low light than a basic camera that records only in black and white. Motion alerts and human auto tracking are listed features, alongside two-way audio and a siren that can be triggered remotely. The housing is rated IP65 for outdoor use in rain and snow.

It makes sense if you want two wire-free outdoor cameras, local storage and ways to respond to activity from your phone. One limitation is that the system’s usefulness for live viewing and alerts depends on having suitable Wi-Fi where the cameras are installed, solar power does not remove that requirement.

When to choose it

Choose this kit if you want to monitor two outdoor areas, avoid a monthly storage fee and value features such as colour night vision, two-way talk and a remote siren. It isn't for you if you need a camera system that works without Wi-Fi, or if your preferred setup depends on a specific recording duration or battery life: neither is stated in the product details. Before choosing, check that your intended mounting spots have a suitable Wi-Fi signal and enough exposure for solar charging.
