Coway Air Purifier Airmega 400

Highlights

If you want one purifier intended to handle a large area, rather than a unit focused on a single small room, the Coway Airmega 400 is designed for spaces up to 3,120 sq. ft. in 60 minutes. That stated coverage is a useful starting point when sizing a purifier for an open living area or a connected home layout.

Its HyperCaptive system combines a pre-filter, an active carbon filter and a HEPA filter. The manufacturer says it reduces 99.97% of 0.3-micron particles, including pollen and other allergens, while also reducing volatile organic compounds and odours. The pre-filter is washable, the listing does not say that the other filters are washable, so don’t treat the whole filter system as reusable.

Smart Mode adjusts fan speed in response to detected air quality. Eco Mode can switch the fan off after the air has stayed purified for 30 minutes, then restart when pollution is detected. In Sleep Mode, the light and pollution sensors respond to a dark room with clean air by lowering noise and power use. Keep in mind that the large coverage figure is stated for a 60-minute cleaning period, so it may not suit anyone expecting faster air cleaning across a large space.

Best use cases

This model is aimed at broad indoor coverage and concerns such as smoke, allergies, pet dander and odours. For example, in an open-plan living space, Smart Mode can adjust the fan as air quality changes rather than requiring you to keep selecting speeds yourself. The automatic modes also offer a hands-off approach compared with choosing a fixed fan setting throughout the day.

Es buena opción si you want one purifier with automatic, Eco and Sleep modes, and the room or connected area is close to the stated coverage. No te encajará si you need a compact unit for a small spot, want a stated cleaning time shorter than 60 minutes for the listed area, or expect every filter to be washable.

Tips for day-to-day use

Use the coverage figure as a guide to room size, not a promise that every layout will behave identically. Walls and separate rooms can make a single purifier less practical than placing units where air needs attention. If you’re choosing it for smoke or pet-related particles, consider where the source is and whether the purifier can sit in the area you want to treat.

The washable pre-filter may make routine upkeep more straightforward, but the listing gives no cleaning schedule or replacement interval for the HEPA and carbon filters. Check those details before buying if ongoing filter maintenance is a deciding factor. The product name also states a 5-year warranty, confirm the warranty terms that apply to your purchase.

Three specific questions

Does it have a washable HEPA filter? The listing identifies the pre-filter as washable. It does not describe the HEPA filter as washable.

Can it adjust its fan automatically? Yes. Smart Mode changes fan speed based on the room’s detected air quality, Eco and Sleep modes also automate operation in the conditions described.

What particle reduction is stated? The manufacturer says the combined filtration system reduces 99.97% of 0.3-micron particles, including pollen and other allergens.

Is it worth it?

The Airmega 400 makes most sense if broad coverage and automatic operation matter more to you than a smaller, simpler purifier with a narrower intended area. Its stated reach, three-part filtration and multiple modes give it a clear role for larger spaces, while the washable pre-filter is a practical detail rather than evidence that all filter upkeep is covered. Choose it if its stated coverage and maintenance needs match your room and routine, look elsewhere if you need a faster stated clean for that area or washable replacement filters throughout.
