Nespresso Coffee and Espresso Maker Vertuo Next

When counter space is tight but you still want more than a small espresso, the Nespresso Vertuo Next is designed to cover both coffee and espresso in one machine. It brews six cup sizes, from espresso up to 18 oz., and can make drinks hot or over ice. The slim, 5.5-inch design may suit a crowded kitchen or a compact coffee station, while one-touch brewing keeps the process straightforward. The trade-off is that it relies on compatible capsules, so it’s a different kind of setup from a machine that uses ground coffee.

Technical details

The Vertuo Next uses Centrifusion technology to extract coffee and produce crema, with automatic capsule recognition intended to set brewing for the capsule in use. That means less manual setup when switching between a smaller espresso and a larger cup of coffee. The machine offers six sizes and brews up to 18 oz., the exact drink depends on the capsule selected. Its 5.5-inch slim design is made with partially recycled materials, though the available details don’t specify the recycled-material percentage.

The product information also lists a milk frother for making hot or cold milk foam for cappuccinos and lattes. A sample pack of capsules and a voucher are included, but the details don’t say which capsules are in the pack or what the voucher covers. Those extras are useful to know about, but shouldn’t be the main reason to choose the machine.

Everyday compatibility

This is a capsule-based brewer, not a machine for loose grounds. It works with Nespresso Vertuo capsules and select Starbucks pods, according to the product information, that compatibility is narrower than a setup built around ground coffee or a different capsule system. If you already buy Vertuo capsules, the automatic recognition and one-touch operation can make a quick morning cup simple: insert a capsule, choose your preferred drink size, and let the machine brew.

The range from espresso to a larger coffee also gives you more flexibility than an espresso-only appliance. For example, you could make a short espresso after dinner and a larger iced coffee the next morning without switching machines. Just keep capsule availability and the capsule-based format in mind when deciding whether it fits your routine.

Usage tips

Choose the capsule for the drink size you want, since the machine recognizes capsules automatically and the brew options span six sizes. For an iced drink, the listing says it can brew over ice, it doesn’t provide a specific recipe or instructions for how much ice to use. The listed frother can make hot or cold milk foam, which may help when you want a cappuccino-style drink rather than plain coffee, but the available details don’t explain its capacity or controls.

If you’re comparing it with a basic drip coffee maker, the Vertuo Next adds espresso options and capsule-driven convenience, while requiring you to buy compatible pods. A ground-coffee machine may make more sense if choosing your own beans or avoiding capsule dependence matters more than one-touch brewing.

Questions before you buy

How many drink sizes does it brew? It offers six sizes, from espresso up to 18 oz.

When it makes sense

It makes sense if you want one compact machine for espresso and larger coffees, value one-touch capsule brewing, and are comfortable using Vertuo-compatible pods. You may want to skip it if you prefer ground coffee, need broad capsule compatibility, or want more detail about the included frother before choosing. The clearest reason to pick this model is its mix of six drink sizes and a slim footprint, its main constraint is the capsule system.
