GoGonova Metal Detector with 8-Inch Search Coil

If a basic detector makes every target feel like a guessing game, the GoGonova PD70 offers two modes to help narrow what you’re hearing. Its adjustable stem is designed for adults and kids ages 8–12, so family members can take turns without being stuck with a fixed-length tool. The waterproof search coil and included accessories suit casual outdoor hunts, though the control box needs to stay dry.

Quick overview

The PD70 has All Metal and Disc modes. All Metal alerts you to metal in general, Disc mode lets you discriminate against unwanted metal types. That gives beginners a straightforward way to start, with an option to filter targets as they get used to the signals. The large LCD has a backlight, plus digital and sound cues intended to help identify detected metals.

The stem adjusts from 39.3 to 51.3 inches, and the armrest is designed to make holding it more comfortable. The 8-inch search coil is rated IP68 and is described as usable underwater. The listing also claims detection up to 8 inches underground, but actual results can vary with the target and conditions. It makes sense if you want a beginner-friendly detector for shared yard, beach, or creek outings rather than a more specialized setup.

How to use it

Choose All Metal when you want to hear about any metal target, or use Disc mode to screen out types you aren’t looking for. As you sweep the coil across a patch of sand, the display and sound can help you decide where to investigate instead of digging at every signal. The backlight may also help when you’re out in dimmer conditions.

Keep in mind that only the search coil is described as waterproof, the control box is not. You can search with the coil in water, but keep the electronics dry. The kit includes two 9V batteries, so check that they’re installed before heading out. Assembly is described as quick, but the product information doesn’t provide detailed operating instructions or explain exactly how each display setting works.

Practical tips

Start with an open area and try both modes so you can get familiar with how the detector signals targets. Adjust the stem for the person holding it, then use the armrest to support a comfortable sweep. For a family outing, one person can scan while another watches the display and helps decide which signals are worth digging.

The carry bag, anti-noise earphones, and multifunction shovel make the kit easier to bring along. The shovel is intended for soft ground or sand, not hard or firm surfaces, so plan on bringing a more suitable tool if you expect compacted soil. You may want to skip it if you need a detector whose entire control unit can be submerged or a digging tool for tough ground.

Practical doubts

Is this detector suitable for kids? The adjustable 39.3-to-51.3-inch stem is listed for kids ages 8–12 as well as adults, making it usable for shared outings.

Can the whole detector go underwater? No. The search coil is IP68 waterproof, but the control box is not waterproof and should stay dry.

What comes in the kit? It includes a carry bag, multifunction shovel, anti-noise earphones, and two 9V batteries. The shovel is for soft material or sand, not hard ground.

Buying verdict

Choose the GoGonova if you want an accessible starter detector with adjustable reach, basic metal discrimination, and a waterproof coil for outdoor searches. The included kit is useful for casual trips, but its limits matter: the control box cannot be submerged, and the shovel is not meant for firm ground. If those constraints fit your plans, it offers a practical way for adults and kids to explore together, for underwater use of the complete unit or digging in hard soil, look for a setup designed for those needs.
