Express Water FLTWH2045CGS2 Whole House Filter Set, 3-Stage, 5-Micron

Three filtration stages treat incoming water at the main supply line, so the same replacement set serves household water for drinking, cooking, showers, and appliances. The Express Water FLTWH2045CGS2 set combines sediment filtration with granular and block activated carbon in 4.5 x 20-inch cartridges.

Its sediment cartridge filters particles down to 5 microns, while the carbon stages target chlorine, certain chemicals, odors, and unpleasant tastes. The set is rated for up to 100,000 gallons, actual filter life depends on incoming water quality.

Key points

This set includes sediment, granular activated carbon (GAC), and activated carbon block (ACB) cartridges. Each stage has a distinct role: the sediment filter catches dirt, sand, and rust, GAC targets chlorine, volatile organic compounds, and other chemical impurities, and the carbon block targets chlorine, total organic carbon, pharmaceuticals, turbidity, and compounds associated with taste and odor. The carbon is made from coconut shells.

Because the cartridges are designed for a whole-house system, filtration takes place as water enters the home rather than at just one faucet. That makes this format useful when you want to address water used for more than drinking, including showers, laundry, and household appliances. It is a different approach from a pitcher or faucet filter, which treats water at a single point of use.

How to use it

Install the cartridges in a compatible whole-house filter housing on the main water supply line. The set fits Express Water whole-house systems and 20-inch filter housings. The three stages work in sequence: sediment filtration comes first, followed by GAC and then the carbon block. This arrangement provides a replacement option for homeowners maintaining a three-stage whole-house setup.

The stated capacity is up to 100,000 gallons per set. The manufacturer also gives an average service life of 6–12 months, with filter life varying according to water quality. Use the capacity and timing as guidance when planning cartridge changes, rather than assuming every household will reach the same interval.

Best use cases

Choose this set when you need replacement cartridges for a compatible whole-house system and want filtration at the point where water enters the home. The three-stage combination is suited to addressing sediment alongside chlorine, chemical impurities, and taste- or odor-related concerns across common household uses. It can also be a practical alternative to buying separate point-of-use filters for individual faucets when the goal is to treat incoming water throughout the home.

Buyer feedback commonly highlights improved taste and ease of installation. Experiences with cartridge life vary, and some buyers mention carbon particles passing through, so feedback is not uniform on those points.

Questions before you buy

Will this set fit my housing? It is designed for Express Water whole-house systems and 20-inch filter housings. Check that your housing uses the stated 4.5 x 20-inch cartridge size before installation.

Does it reduce total dissolved solids (TDS)? No. Whole-house filtration with this set does not reduce TDS. For TDS reduction, the manufacturer points to its reverse osmosis systems.

How often should I replace the cartridges? The set is rated for up to 100,000 gallons, and the stated average service life is 6–12 months. Incoming water quality affects how long a set lasts.

Should you buy it?

For households maintaining a compatible whole-house system, this set brings sediment, GAC, and carbon-block filtration together in one replacement purchase. Its 5-micron sediment stage and coconut-shell carbon cartridges make it a relevant choice for treating incoming water across everyday household uses.
