Clear Plastic Tarp 7x12

For a patio cover, greenhouse barrier, or chicken-coop windbreak, a clear tarp can protect an outdoor area without shutting out as much daylight as an opaque cover. This 7x12 vinyl plastic tarp is described as waterproof, with a surface coating, reinforced edges, and about 80% transparency. It’s meant for situations where some visibility and light matter alongside weather protection—not as a rigid panel or a fully clear window.

If you prioritize daylight and a view through the cover, clear plastic has an advantage over a solid tarp, if you prefer more privacy or a fully shaded space, an opaque cover may suit you better.

Where it shines

The transparent format is useful when plants need access to natural light while being sheltered from wind, rain, or hail. It can also cover patio furniture during bad weather while leaving the outdoor setting visible, or help create a brighter enclosure for a chicken coop. For a pergola or gazebo, it offers a way to block some exposure to the elements without making the covered area feel as closed off as it would under a solid tarp.

The edges are sewn with six lines, and grommets along the perimeter provide points for attaching rope or bungee cords. That setup makes it adaptable to different projects, though the finished fit will depend on how you anchor and tension it. Worth considering if you need one cover to protect a defined area while letting substantial light through.

What to know

The listed 80% transparency is a useful guide to its light-passing design, but it also means the sheet won’t provide a completely unobstructed view like a clear rigid pane. The product description doesn’t give grommet spacing or vinyl thickness, so those details may matter if you’re planning a tightly fitted installation or need to match existing attachment points. Measure the space and plan where the edges can be secured before choosing it, wind exposure and the shape of the structure can affect how practical a flexible tarp is.

The description also presents it as a winter window-insulation option. Treat that as a removable covering rather than a substitute for a purpose-built window solution: no insulation rating or installation method is provided. Better avoided if you need verified thermal performance, a precise fit, or a permanently rigid enclosure. From the way it is set up, its value is in flexible coverage and light transmission, not in documented insulation or a specified heavy-duty thickness.

Best use cases

Think of a quick garden setup: stretch the tarp over a frame to shield seedlings from weather while still allowing light through. Similar uses include covering patio furniture, adding a bright barrier around a coop, or making a pergola more sheltered for outdoor gatherings. The grommets give you places to attach it, but the listing does not specify that ropes or bungees are included, so plan your fastening separately.

For a small cover or seasonal project, this format may be more convenient than installing rigid panels. For a permanent structure, a precise greenhouse fit, or an area that needs a fully opaque screen, a purpose-made panel or solid cover may be the more suitable approach.

Is it worth it?

This tarp makes sense when the main buying decision is clear, flexible coverage: it combines a 7x12 format, waterproof construction, reinforced sewn edges, perimeter grommets, and stated 80% transparency. Those details give it several plausible outdoor uses without locking it to a single setup.

The trade-off is that key installation specifics—such as thickness and grommet spacing—aren’t provided, and its transparency won’t match a clear window. Choose it when you can work with a flexible sheet and want to preserve daylight, skip it when exact dimensions, documented insulation, or complete privacy are essential.
