Avenco Modular Sectional Sofa, 118" U-Shape

A fixed sofa layout can make a living room feel awkward, especially when you want room to stretch out or rearrange seating. The Avenco modular sectional is designed to let you move individual sections into different arrangements, with a U-shaped setup measuring 118" in the product name. It arrives compressed and requires no assembly, but the foam needs time to recover after unboxing. That waiting period matters if you’re planning to use it right away.

Key specifications

This is a modular, boneless sectional upholstered in corduroy, with high-density memory foam and individually wrapped coil support in each seat. The combination is intended to offer a cushioned feel with more support than foam alone, it’s a different approach from choosing a conventional sofa with a fixed frame and layout. The ribbed fabric has a soft, warm texture, while a non-slip bottom is designed to help keep the modules from shifting during everyday use.

The sofa ships compressed. After unboxing and positioning the pieces, allow up to 72 hours for the foam to expand to its intended shape and seat height. The product information notes that the seats may feel low or firm during those first days. Each seat is listed at 24kg, which is relevant if you expect to move modules often: they’re designed to be rearranged, but they aren’t weightless pieces.

Who it’s for

It suits you if you want to change your seating arrangement without replacing the whole sofa, or you’re furnishing a living room, guest room, or home theater where lounging space matters. For example, you could separate the seats for a casual get-together, then bring them back into a chaise-style arrangement for a movie night. The U-shape also makes sense when you want several seats grouped around a shared viewing area.

It might not be a great match if you need a sofa that’s ready for full use the moment it arrives, or if a 118" U-shaped arrangement would crowd your room. The listed information doesn’t provide the dimensions of each individual module, so planning around the full configuration is more dependable than assuming the pieces will fit a particular doorway or nook.

Everyday use

The no-assembly setup keeps the initial process simple: unbox, place the modules, and give the filling time to expand. After that, the separate sections can be moved to refresh the layout. The non-slip base is meant to help them stay in position, although the product details don’t specify how it performs on different floor surfaces. Corduroy gives the sofa a more textured look and feel than smooth upholstery, the maker describes it as suited to daily wear, but no care or cleaning instructions are provided here.

Practical doubts

Does it need to be assembled? No assembly is required. The modules arrive compressed and need to be unpacked and positioned.

How soon can you sit on it? The foam may feel low or firm at first. The product information says full expansion takes 72 hours, so it’s sensible to allow that recovery time before judging the final seat height and feel.

Can you change the configuration? Yes. The listed arrangements include individual seats, double seats, and an L-shaped chaise setup, so the layout can be adjusted to suit the room or occasion.

When it makes sense

Choose this sectional if flexible seating and a lounge-friendly U-shaped arrangement are more important to you than immediate, out-of-the-box readiness. The compressed delivery and repositionable modules offer a different tradeoff from a fixed sofa: you get layout flexibility, but need to wait for the foam to expand and have enough room for the 118" configuration. If your space is tight or you need exact module measurements before buying, the available details may not be enough to plan confidently.
