Altec Lansing Bluetooth Speaker HydraWAVE

When a phone speaker is too quiet for the campsite or poolside, the Altec Lansing HydraWAVE gives you a portable Bluetooth option built for outdoor use. Its IP67 rating and ability to float are useful if music may end up near water, while the included carabiner clip lets you attach it to your gear. The listed battery life is up to 12 hours, though the actual runtime can depend on how you use the speaker. For a quick day outdoors, it offers more flexibility than a speaker meant to stay on a desk, without promising the output of a larger sound system.

How to use it

Connect a phone over Bluetooth and keep the speaker nearby, the listed wireless range is up to 100 ft. Clip it to a bag while hiking or camping, or set it by the pool when you want music without handling your phone. Voice assistant compatibility adds a hands-free option, and USB-C quick charge is handy when you need to top it up between outings. The description doesn’t give a charging time, so “quick” doesn’t tell you how long a full recharge takes.

Want a wider listening setup for a get-together? Pair two Hydra outdoor speakers for true wireless stereo. That’s a more flexible approach than relying on one speaker for every situation, but it does mean owning a second compatible Hydra speaker. The carabiner helps with carrying, it doesn’t tell you how much room the speaker takes up in a packed bag. Since no dimensions are listed, it’s difficult to judge how it will fit in tight storage without that measurement.

Pros

• IP67 water protection and a floating design suit poolside use and other wet outdoor settings.
• Up to 12 hours of playtime is useful for longer outings away from a charger.
• USB-C charging, a carabiner clip, and voice assistant compatibility cover practical day-to-day needs.
• Two Hydra outdoor speakers can be paired for true wireless stereo.

It’s a great fit if you want a speaker to clip to your gear and use near water, and value the option to add stereo pairing later. It may not suit you if you need published dimensions, a stated recharge time, or the fuller output of a larger speaker for a demanding listening space. The stated 8W RMS output gives a useful point of reference, but it doesn’t establish how loud or bass-heavy the speaker will sound in your particular setting.

Buying verdict

Choose the HydraWAVE if water resistance, portability, and a clip-on design matter more than having detailed size information or a stated charging duration. It makes sense for casual outdoor listening, from setting it beside a pool to carrying it on a hike, and the option to pair two units gives you a route to stereo sound. If you mainly listen in a large room or need to know exactly how it fits in a small pack, the available details leave important questions unanswered, a larger speaker or one with published dimensions may be a more considered purchase.
