Adena Montessori Coin Box wooden toy for 6‑12 months
Product description
This wooden Montessori coin box combines object permanence play with simple shape and color sorting to engage infants during early exploration. It helps develop hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills through disc dropping and retrieval while offering a small drawer for toy storage, making it useful for supervised play and early learning sessions.
Key Points
The box includes six colored discs and a small pull-out drawer to encourage repetitive play and cause-and-effect learning. Crafted with smooth edges, the design aims to reduce splinters and offers easy grasping for small hands. According to the manufacturer, the non-toxic, water-based paint on the discs is child-safe and suitable for babies who explore objects orally. This toy supports Montessori principles by promoting independence and focused activity during short play intervals.
Technical Specifications
- Name: Adena Montessori Coin Box
- Material: basswood
- Finish: non-toxic water-based paint on discs
- Components included: 6 colored discs, wooden box with slots, small drawer
- Recommended age range: 6 to 12 months (according to the manufacturer)
Benefits
Playing with the coin box helps babies learn object permanence as they watch discs disappear and reappear when they open the drawer. Repeated dropping and retrieving builds coordination and grip strength, which are foundational for later self-feeding and drawing. The clear slots and vivid disc colors assist early color recognition and simple categorization, and the straightforward mechanics reduce frustration for young learners.
Usage Recommendations
Introduce the toy during short, supervised sessions to keep engagement high and encourage the child to repeat the action several times. Demonstrate dropping one disc first, then invite the child to try, and gently guide hand placement if needed. Rotate this toy with other tactile items to maintain novelty, and inspect the paint and wooden surface periodically for wear, especially if the child tends to chew on toys.
