The Velway weed control membrane is a heavy duty landscaping fabric supplied as a 2x5 metre roll with 30 U-shaped garden pegs for secure fixing. It combines durable polypropylene weaving with breathability so soil, air and moisture still reach plant roots while the black weave reduces light and helps suppress weed growth around beds, paths and artificial grass. If you plan to lay a tidy border or prepare ground for gravel or paving, this membrane gives a straightforward way to limit weeds without blocking drainage.

Key features

This woven polypropylene membrane is built to resist tearing and daily outdoor wear. It comes folded with the galvanised U-pegs tucked inside for safe transit, each peg measuring about 150 mm long and 36 mm wide with a 3 mm nail diameter, rust resistant according to the manufacturer. The fabric includes green guide lines to help align planting and cutting, and it can be trimmed with scissors or a knife to suit irregular shapes.

Usage tips

Lay the membrane on prepared ground, smooth out creases and fix the edges with the supplied U-pegs at regular intervals to keep it flat. Overlap strips by at least 10–15 cm where needed to reduce weed ingress, then cover with gravel, paving or soil as required. Keep in mind that strong sunlight will gradually affect any plastic fabric over many years, so plan for occasional replacement in high UV exposure areas.
