Product description
Highlights
The Thermalright Assassin X 120R SE V2 is a compact air CPU cooler that pairs a 120mm ARGB PWM quiet fan with a four heatpipe aluminium sink to improve everyday thermal performance. It suits mid‑tower builds where a 148mm cooler height and a low noise profile matter, offering a clear benefit for users seeking quieter operation without moving to liquid cooling.

Why it makes sense
This cooler blends a pure copper base and four heat pipes with a high‑performance fan to help keep CPU temperatures under control during daily workloads and light gaming. The fan uses S‑FDB bearing tech for durability, and according to the manufacturer the unit ships with metal Intel and AMD fasteners for a secure fit. The fixed flashlight style ARGB effect lights the fan on connection, though note the lighting colour is not adjustable through motherboard sync.
Best use cases
Worth considering if you need a reliable upgrade from stock cooling in a compact case, or if you want a quieter system for office use and casual gaming. It’s a good fit if you prioritise straightforward installation and compatibility with AM4, AM5 and common Intel sockets while avoiding tall memory clearance issues.
Care & maintenance
Fans and fins benefit from occasional dusting to retain airflow and acoustic performance, use compressed air in short bursts and avoid touching the fins. Check mounting screws after the first few weeks of use to ensure nothing has loosened under thermal cycling.
