The SmallRig Z 8 Cage is a full aluminium alloy cage built for the Nikon Z 8, offering protection and practical accessory mounting for photography and video work. It keeps full access to controls and the battery compartment while the silicone cushions prevent scratches. This product is useful when you need stable rigging and quick transitions between tripod and gimbal using a single plate.
Key features
This cage locks the camera with a 1/4"-20 screw, a locating screw at the bottom and an additional screw on the right side to reduce twisting. The base includes a quick-release Arca-Swiss plate so you can swap between tripod and gimbal such as DJI RS series without fuss. A magnetic wrench stored in the bottom plate helps with assembly and removal. Multiple 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 locating holes provide mounting options for top and side handles, ARRI accessories and rod clamps. Cold shoes accept a microphone or LED light, while a QD socket and wrist strap hole offer more carrying options. Note that the split ring on the right of the camera must be removed to fit the right-side screw.

Usage tips
It’s a good fit if you often switch between handheld gimbal work and tripod setups, because the Arca-Swiss plate and anti-twist design speed transitions. For landscape and wedding video workflows the multiple mounting points let you add a top handle, a side handle or an external mic without blocking controls. Keep in mind that one small step is required during fitting, remove the camera split ring on the right to secure the side screw.
Care & maintenance
Wipe the cage with a soft cloth after shoots to remove dust and grit, and store the magnetic wrench in the built-in slot to avoid losing it. Regularly check screws for tightness to maintain the anti-twist performance.
