TP-Link Smart In-Wall Outlet KP200
Product description
How to use it
If you want smart control without using a plug-in adapter, this in-wall outlet is built into the wall instead. That makes it a more integrated choice, though it also means the wiring and wall box have to suit the installation.

The Kasa KP200 controls two plugged-in devices, either together or separately. You can switch them on or off, set schedules and create scenes in the Kasa app.

Picture turning on holiday lights from your phone while you’re away, or asking Alexa to switch off a bedroom lamp at bedtime. Would you rather manage each connected device on its own? The app lets you give the outlets unique names.

Pros
The main appeal is having two controllable outlets in one in-wall unit, with no separate hub required. Remote control, schedules, scenes and voice commands cover everyday routines, while the Kasa app can group compatible devices for a single-tap control setup. Away mode can switch connected devices on and off randomly during the day to make it look as though someone is home.

It works with Alexa, Google Assistant and Microsoft Cortana, and is UL certified. TP-Link also lists a two-year manufacturer warranty and 24/7 technical support. It suits you if you want built-in smart control for lamps or seasonal lighting and are comfortable with the wiring requirements. Compared with a simpler plug-in smart plug, this option takes up less space at the outlet, the trade-off is that installation depends on the existing electrical box and wiring.

What I’d decide

The practical catch is significant: the KP200 requires a neutral wire and a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection, and its wall box must be at least 2 inches deep. If those conditions aren’t met, its app and voice features won’t make it a workable fit. Given its design, it’s also less straightforward than a plug-in option if you don’t want to deal with an in-wall installation.

You may want to skip it if you need a device that works with a different Wi-Fi band or want a smart outlet you can move between rooms. But if the wiring is suitable and you want two separately controlled connections built into the wall, the KP200 offers useful remote and routine-based control without adding a hub.
