Oral-B iO9 electric toothbrush

If you want a straightforward electric toothbrush, a connected model with coaching may be more than you need. The Oral-B iO9 takes a more guided approach, with an interactive display and brushing features intended to help you keep track of your routine.

It also comes with a charging travel case and four iO Ultimate Clean replacement brush heads, so the package has more to it than the handle alone.

Its main appeal is choice: seven brushing modes, Bluetooth app connectivity and AI Tracking with 3D Teeth Tracking. The trade-off is that you’ll need compatible iO replacement heads, and the connected features may matter less if you prefer a simple brush without app-based tracking.

Key specifications

The Black Onyx iO Series 9 is an electric toothbrush with an interactive colour display, a brushing timer and a pressure sensor. Its seven modes are Daily Clean, Whitening, Gum Care, Sensitive, Intense, Super Sensitive and Tongue Clean. That range lets you select a mode for the kind of brushing you want, rather than relying on one setting for every routine.

Bluetooth connects the brush to the Oral-B app, where you can track brushing habits. AI Tracking with 3D Teeth Tracking is described as mapping the surface of each tooth to help you get a complete clean. These features make the iO9 more focused on feedback and tracking than a basic electric brush, they’re most useful if you’ll actually look at the display or use the app. The product information doesn’t explain battery life or how long charging takes, so those details aren’t clear here.

Who it’s for

It’s a good fit if you want several brushing modes and prompts built into your routine, or you like the idea of checking your habits in an app. For example, you can select Sensitive before brushing, follow the on-screen coaching, then use the app to review your routine afterwards. That’s a more involved experience than choosing a brush with only basic controls.

No te encajará si you want a no-frills toothbrush, don’t plan to use app connectivity, or would rather avoid buying heads from a specific compatible range. The brush works with Oral-B iO replacement brush heads, so head compatibility is a practical consideration when choosing it. By design, much of its appeal is in the feedback and connected features, rather than simplicity.

What’s included

The package lists one Oral-B iO Series 9 Black Onyx toothbrush, four iO Ultimate Clean replacement brush heads and a Power2Go charging travel case. The case adds a travel-oriented charging option, while the included heads mean you have replacements in the box. The information doesn’t specify whether the case can charge the brush in every travel setting, so don’t assume more than its stated charging and travel purpose.

Buying questions

Does it connect to a phone? Yes. It connects to the Oral-B app using Bluetooth to help track brushing habits.

Can you change the brushing mode? Yes. There are seven listed modes, including Sensitive, Gum Care and Tongue Clean, alongside Daily Clean and Whitening.

Are the replacement heads universal? The product information specifies compatibility with Oral-B iO replacement brush heads. It doesn’t claim compatibility with other brush-head types.

Final verdict

Choose the iO9 if its screen, varied modes and app-based tracking are features you expect to use, and the charging travel case is useful for your routine. Skip it if a simpler electric toothbrush would do the job or you don’t want to stick with iO-compatible replacement heads. The connected coaching is the reason to consider this model, without interest in that guidance, its added features may not make much difference to your decision.
