The pressure-balance valve cartridge monitors changes in water pressure to help protect against scalding when hot or cold water pressure shifts. This makes pressure balancing a useful feature for everyday showering, alongside the choice of overhead rainfall or handheld spray. The head’s air-injection technology is designed to mix air into the water for a rain-like feel.
Tips for day-to-day use
Use the rainfall head when you want broad overhead coverage, or pick up the handheld sprayer to direct the stream during a shower or when rinsing the shower area. The system includes a shower holder and hose, so the handheld option has a dedicated place when it is not in use. The single-handle control keeps adjustment in one place.
Customer feedback is positive about the shower experience and product quality for some buyers, while opinions on functionality are mixed. Some report trouble with operation, including the overhead function or shower head. These differing experiences are useful context when weighing the system’s two spray options and pressure-balance valve against a simpler shower setup.
Included in the pack
The system’s listed components are a 12-inch square rainfall head, handheld spray, shower arm, shower hose, shower holder, water control valve and trim. Brass is specified for the handheld spray, arm, holder and valve, the rainfall head and hose are listed as 304 stainless steel.
Practical questions
What shape and size is the rainfall head? It is a 12-inch square shower head, providing an overhead rainfall option as part of the system.
What is the handheld sprayer useful for? It gives you a second way to direct water rather than relying only on the overhead head. The included holder provides a place for it when it is not being used.
How does the pressure-balance valve help? Its cartridge monitors water pressure balance and is designed to help protect against scalding caused by sudden changes in hot or cold water pressure.
Is it worth it?
It makes sense if you want both an overhead rainfall shower and a handheld option in a single wall-mounted set. The 12-inch square head, brass valve and trim kit, and pressure-balance cartridge give the Ackwave Ack-5642 practical features for a bathroom shower upgrade, while the handheld spray adds flexibility for directing water during everyday use.
