NETGEAR GS105GE 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch, Fanless Metal Case

Why it makes sense

At 10L x 9.4W x 2.7H centimetres, the NETGEAR GS105GE is a compact five-port switch with a metal case for adding wired connections to a home or office setup. Its Gigabit Ethernet ports support data rates of up to 1 Gigabits Per Second, while plug-and-play setup means you can extend your network without software or configuration.

Need more wired connections for a desktop, laptop or printer? The GS105GE gives those devices a straightforward place on the network, with a fanless design for quiet operation in a study or shared workspace. It can sit on a desk or be mounted on a wall, making it easier to fit into different layouts.

Buyers often highlight its easy setup, functionality and robust build, and some also value the network speed. That feedback reflects customer impressions rather than a performance guarantee.

Full duplex is supported up to 2000 Mbps per port.

Practical tips

Connect Ethernet devices to the RJ45 ports to expand a wired network. With plug-and-play operation, there is no software installation or configuration process to manage. Place the switch on a desktop for easy access or use its wall-mounting option to position it neatly within the space. The fanless design also suits noise-sensitive areas where a quiet network setup matters.

Does setup require software? No. The GS105GE is a plug-and-play unmanaged switch, so it does not require software or network configuration to get started.

Can it be mounted away from a desk? Yes. It supports both desktop and wall mounting, so you can choose a position that works with your room or workspace layout.

Buying verdict

The NETGEAR GS105GE is a practical fit when you want to add five Gigabit Ethernet connections without a complex setup. Its compact metal case, quiet fanless operation and flexible desktop or wall placement make it well suited to organising wired devices in a home office or other small network space.
