High Force: The DCI Ryan Mysteries, Book 5 – Unabridged Audiobook
Product description
An unabridged audio edition gives you the fifth DCI Ryan mystery in full, with a listening length of 8 hours and 47 minutes. Jonathan Keeble is the narrator. It suits listeners looking for another instalment in a continuing series, rather than a standalone title. If you prefer reading on the page, a print edition is a different format to consider.
Everyday use
As Book 5 of The DCI Ryan Mysteries, High Force is part of a longer series, so its position is worth considering before you start. If you want to follow the series from its beginning, an earlier instalment may be a better entry point, if you already know DCI Ryan, this edition offers the next numbered book in audio. The product details don’t explain how much the plot depends on earlier books, so they can’t confirm whether it works equally well as a standalone mystery.
An unabridged recording is suited to listeners who want the complete audio edition rather than a shortened version. Its 8 hours and 47 minutes can be spread across listening sessions, making it a practical format for fitting a longer story around other activities. The details identify the narrator and running time, but don’t provide a plot synopsis, so the series placement and audio format are the clearest points to base a decision on.
What you’ll notice day to day
The main difference here is the listening experience: the story is narrated by Jonathan Keeble, rather than read from a printed copy. That makes it a straightforward choice for someone who would rather listen than set aside time to read, while readers who like to pause and scan back through a page may prefer print. No playback features or device compatibility are specified, so those details shouldn’t be assumed from the listing.
Readers describe the mystery as engaging and fast-moving, and some say the series improves as it progresses. They also mention enjoying the characters and their development, particularly DCI Ryan. These are reader impressions rather than a guarantee of how the story will land for you, but they suggest that pace and characterisation are part of the appeal. The available details don’t give enough information to assess the plot itself or its ending.
It suits you if you want an unabridged recording, enjoy following a numbered mystery series and are comfortable committing to a longer listen. It may not suit you if you specifically want a printed book, need a synopsis before choosing, or would rather begin with the first instalment.

Final verdict
High Force is most compelling as a next-series listen for someone already interested in The DCI Ryan Mysteries, with its unabridged format and named narrator clearly stated. For a first-time listener, the fifth-book position is the key consideration: choose an earlier instalment if you want to follow the series from the start. If you’re deciding between audio and print, choose this edition for listening, the supplied details don’t establish any additional playback features or provide a story summary.
