A Cold Heart: DS Malkie McCulloch, Book 4 — Unabridged Audiobook

For a commute, a walk or a quiet stretch at home, A Cold Heart offers a crime story in audiobook form. It is the fourth book in the DS Malkie McCulloch series and is presented unabridged. Looking for a listen that fits around other parts of the day?

The essentials

This release is listed as Book 4 of 5 in the DS Malkie McCulloch series, with a listening length of 9 hours and 43 minutes. The unabridged format means the recording is presented as the complete text rather than an abridged version. The product details also list a publication date of 7 August 2025 and Storm Publishing.

The book is categorised among police procedural mysteries and crime fiction. That gives a useful broad indication of its shelf, but the supplied details do not include a plot summary, so they are not enough to judge its particular case, characters or tone. If you already follow the series, its position is clear, if you are new to it, the numbering matters more than a genre label when deciding where to begin.

Best use cases

This audiobook is suited to someone who prefers listening to reading, or who wants a longer-form crime title for time spent away from a printed page. Its stated running time gives you a concrete idea of the commitment involved, while the unabridged format will appeal if you want the full text rather than a shortened adaptation.

Worth considering if you are already reading the DS Malkie McCulloch books and want to continue with the next listed instalment. Compared with choosing a standalone crime novel, this is a later entry in a series, so a listener who wants to start at the beginning may be better served by looking for Book 1 first. The supplied information does not establish whether this instalment works independently, so it is safest to treat the series order as relevant.

How to use it

Think about where a 9-hour-and-43-minute listen would fit into your routine before choosing it. It could be spread across regular listening sessions, or taken on in longer blocks, the listing gives the total length but does not specify chapter timings or playback features. If you are selecting it as a gift or for someone who has not read the earlier books, the series number is a practical detail to check against their reading history.

The comparison is straightforward: choose this format if listening suits your routine and you want an unabridged version. If you prefer to read at your own pace, or want a story that is clearly the start of a series, another format or an earlier instalment may be a closer fit. No plot details are supplied here to help assess the mystery itself.

Practical questions

How long is the audiobook? The listed listening length is 9 hours and 43 minutes.

Is it abridged? No. The product details describe it as unabridged.

Where does it sit in the series? It is Book 4 of 5 in the DS Malkie McCulloch series, so it is not the starting instalment.

Final verdict

A Cold Heart makes most sense for listeners who want an unabridged crime audiobook and are ready for the fourth DS Malkie McCulloch book. The series position and full listening length make it easier to judge the commitment, but there is no plot summary here to assess whether the story itself suits your tastes. It may not suit you if you are specifically after the first book in a series or need a standalone story confirmed before listening.
