Denon true wireless earbuds AH-C500W

If you want earbuds for long listening sessions, an open-ear fit may suit you better than a sealed in-ear design. The Denon AH-C500W pairs that approach with Bluetooth 5.3 and a charging case.

Its listed features also cover calls, app-based touch controls and water resistance, so it is designed for more than music at a desk.

If you prioritise a less enclosed fit, this design is worth a look, if you prefer a close seal to help block surrounding sound, a conventional in-ear style may suit you better.

Getting the most from it

The open-ear construction is the main thing to consider in day-to-day use. It does not form the same seal as an in-ear earbud, which can make it a more comfortable-feeling option for extended wear if you dislike that plugged-in sensation. The trade-off is that it is not the natural choice when your priority is keeping outside noise out.

For a practical routine, you could wear the lightweight earbuds while moving around the house, then use the dual microphones for a call. Each earbud weighs 4.5g, and the IPX4 water-resistance rating is intended for situations where light splashes are a concern, it does not mean they are waterproof. The rating and open fit make them suitable to consider for everyday activity, but not a substitute for choosing earbuds specifically for stronger noise isolation.

Touch controls can be customised in the Denon Headphones app. That gives you a way to tailor the controls to your habits rather than relying only on the default setup. Bluetooth 5.3, Google Fast Pair and Windows Swift Pair are included for pairing, alongside AAC, SBC and LC3 codec support. The manufacturer lists the codec options, but the source does not specify how playback quality varies between devices.

Why it’s worth it

The battery figures give you a useful choice between listening away from the case and topping up during the day: Denon lists up to seven hours of continuous playback from the earbuds and up to 24 hours in total with the charging case. A 10-minute quick charge is stated to provide one hour of playback. These are manufacturer figures, so actual time may vary with use and settings.

The 12mm Free-Edge bio-cellulose drivers are adapted from Denon’s flagship headphones, according to the manufacturer. That gives the sound hardware a clear point of difference, although the product details do not provide measured sound results or noise-cancelling features. If your buying decision depends on blocking traffic or office noise, an in-ear model designed to seal the ear is a more relevant type of option.

It makes sense if comfort over longer listening sessions and a less enclosed fit matter more to you than isolation. No te compensa si you specifically want a sealed fit or need stated noise cancellation, neither is listed here.

When to choose it

It is a more considered fit for everyday listening and calls than for shutting out the world. The key compromise is that open-ear comfort does not provide the same enclosed feel as sealed earbuds, so listeners who value isolation above all else should look at that style instead.
