## Description

A portable Wi-Fi 6 travel router, the TP-Link Roam 6 AX1500 is designed to bring a private network to places where you’re connecting through hotel Wi-Fi, a wired network, or phone tethering. Its dual-band connection and multiple operating modes make it more flexible than a basic travel hotspot that only shares a cellular connection.

It can also serve as an access point or range extender, so the same device has uses beyond trips.

## Usage tips

In router mode, Roam 6 can connect to public Wi-Fi, an internet service provider, or a phone through USB tethering, then share the connection with your devices. For public Wi-Fi that requires a sign-in page, the Tether app supports a one-time captive portal login to create a private network for your devices. That can be useful when traveling with a phone, laptop, and tablet, rather than signing in separately on each one.

The router also has access point, repeater, and client modes. For example, it can add Wi-Fi to a wired connection in a room or help connect a wired device to a wireless network. Ethernet ports offer another option when you’d rather use a wired connection. It suits you if you want one compact device for several travel and home networking setups. The listed package includes a power adapter, USB cable, Ethernet cable, and quick installation guide.

## Why it’s worth it

Wi-Fi 6 operates on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, with listed maximum rates of 300 Mbps and 1,201 Mbps, respectively. The manufacturer says it can support up to 60 devices, actual Wi-Fi speeds depend on the source connection, distance, surroundings, and obstacles. This makes the router more suited to sharing an existing internet connection across several devices than to replacing the internet service itself.

OpenVPN and WireGuard support may matter for remote work or private browsing, while WPA3 and parental controls add further network-management options. Buyers commonly describe setup as straightforward and like the compact, carry-friendly design. Feedback about connectivity is mixed, however, with some reporting trouble maintaining a connection. It may not suit you if you need a router whose performance is independent of the hotel, phone, or wired connection supplying its internet access.

The TL-WR1512X is worth considering if your priority is sharing hotel, RV, or other existing internet access across multiple devices, with the option to use wired connections and VPN protocols. Compared with a simpler single-purpose hotspot, its different operating modes offer more ways to use it, compared with a dedicated home router, its appeal is its portable, travel-focused role. Keep in mind that the speed you get still depends on the internet connection it receives.
