## Description

The limited-edition Steelbook edition of The Wind Rises includes both Blu-ray and DVD formats, giving you two disc options for watching the film.

Hayao Miyazaki’s animated drama follows Jiro Horikoshi, an aviation-obsessed designer whose ambitions unfold amid love, illness, and the approach of war.

With a runtime of 2 hours and 7 minutes and a PG-13 rating, it’s a feature-length story with serious themes rather than a light, fast-paced children’s adventure.

## Technical overview

The film is listed in animation, anime and manga, art house and international, and drama categories. Japanese is the listed language, with English and French subtitles. Audio options include Japanese and English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 and Dolby Digital 2.0. That range is useful if you want to watch in Japanese with subtitles or choose an English-language track.

The PG-13 rating and the story’s themes are worth considering for younger viewers. The film deals with illness, loss, and wartime anxieties, so its animated format does not necessarily make it a fit for every child. You’ll appreciate it if you’re looking for a reflective Miyazaki film that pairs an intimate love story with the history of aviation, rather than an adventure built mainly around action.

Customer comments often highlight the emotional story and detailed animation, while reactions to its suitability for children are mixed. Those impressions may help set expectations, but they don’t replace the rating or your judgment about a particular viewer.

## Usage tips

Choose the Japanese audio with English or French subtitles if you prefer the listed original-language option, English audio is also available. The DVD provides an alternative disc format alongside the Blu-ray, which may be useful if you want the edition to include both. The listed runtime is 2 hours and 7 minutes, so plan for a full-length viewing rather than a short feature.

This edition suits viewers interested in Miyazaki’s more contemplative, historically rooted storytelling. Compared with choosing a release based only on action or broad family appeal, this one puts more weight on Jiro’s creative life and the personal costs surrounding it. It may not suit you if you’re specifically seeking a brisk, uncomplicated film for very young children.

## What you get

The product is identified as a limited-edition Steelbook with Blu-ray and DVD discs. Listed bonus content includes feature-length storyboards, a “10 Years with Hayao Miyazaki” documentary episode, “Behind the Microphone,” a film-completion press conference, and original theatrical trailers. These extras give the set more to explore after the feature, particularly for viewers interested in the film’s production and presentation.

The listing does not specify additional physical items beyond the Steelbook and the two disc formats, so the bonus content described here refers to the included video extras. If you’re comparing editions, focus on whether those extras and the dual-format set matter to you, a simpler release may be enough if you only want to watch the film.

## Before you decide

**Is this a good choice for younger children?** It carries a PG-13 rating, and its story includes illness, loss, and wartime themes. Customer reactions to its suitability for children vary, so consider the individual viewer rather than relying on the animation style alone.

**What audio and subtitle options are listed?** Audio is available in Japanese and English, with DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 and Dolby Digital 2.0 options. English and French subtitles are listed.

**Are extras included?** Yes. The listed video extras include storyboards, a documentary episode, behind-the-microphone material, a press conference, and theatrical trailers.

## Should you buy it?

Choose this edition if you want The Wind Rises in both Blu-ray and DVD formats and value the listed production extras as well as the film. Its strongest appeal is the combination of Miyazaki’s aviation-centered story, emotional drama, and bonus material. If your priority is a short, lighthearted movie for young children, the runtime, PG-13 rating, and serious subject matter point toward a different kind of viewing choice.
