## Description

Adjustable emissivity helps the TempPro TP30 match its infrared readings to different surface materials, making it useful for checking heat across cooking, home, and automotive tasks. Its -58°F to 1022°F range and 12:1 distance-to-spot ratio let you take surface measurements from a distance, while a response time under 500 milliseconds provides a quick readout.

Use it to scan a griddle, check a pizza oven surface, compare HVAC vent temperatures, or monitor an engine during maintenance. The backlit digital display shows MAX, MIN, and AVG readings from the last scan, giving you several ways to assess the temperatures you measure.

## Key specifications
- Temperature range: -58°F to 1022°F
- Distance-to-spot ratio: 12:1
- Emissivity: Adjustable from 0.1 to 1.0, default is 0.95
- Response time: Less than 500 milliseconds
- Display: Backlit LCD with MAX, MIN, and AVG readings
- Power: Two included AAA batteries

The adjustable emissivity setting is useful when moving between surfaces with different finishes or materials. The 12:1 ratio supports scanning from farther away than a close-contact measurement, and the single laser helps indicate the target area. The display’s summary readings can help compare hot and cold spots during a scan, whether you’re checking cooking surfaces or looking for temperature variation around an HVAC vent.

## Best use cases
The TP30 is designed for surface temperature checks in indoor and outdoor settings. For cooking, it can help you check a griddle or pizza oven surface before placing food on it. Around the home, scan an HVAC vent or inspect a surface during a repair. For automotive maintenance, its non-contact readings can help monitor an engine’s surface temperature.

How useful is one thermometer across these different tasks? The range of applications comes from the combination of infrared measurement, adjustable emissivity, and a wide temperature span—not from needing separate contact probes for each surface. Buyers also describe it as quick and easy to use for a variety of temperature checks. Feedback on accuracy is mixed, with some reporting consistent results and others noting variation, durability comments are mixed as well, including reports of laser issues.

## How to use it
Point the thermometer at the surface you want to measure and take a scan. Set emissivity to suit the surface material, the default is 0.95. Use the 12:1 distance-to-spot ratio to plan how far away to hold the unit, since the area measured changes with distance. Read the result on the backlit LCD, where MAX, MIN, and AVG readings from the last scan are available. The display automatically shuts off after 90 seconds of inactivity. Wipe the thermometer clean after use, and replace its two AAA batteries as needed.

## When it makes sense
Choose the TempPro TP30 when you want one handheld infrared thermometer for surface checks across cooking, HVAC, home repairs, or automotive maintenance. Its broad temperature range supports both hot and cold readings, while adjustable emissivity and MAX/MIN/AVG display options add practical control when comparing surfaces. For routine checks of a griddle, vent, or engine surface, it brings those functions together in a compact, battery-powered tool.
