## Description

A drum microphone and a general instrument mic serve different recording needs. The Sennheiser E 604 is a compact dynamic cardioid mic designed for close-miking percussion. Its included clip attaches to a drum rim, while its wired XLR connection suits a standard wired setup. It is also specified for brass and woodwind.

## Why it’s worth it

The E 604’s focus is practical placement around a drum kit. Its compact design and included drum clip let you position it at the rim rather than relying on a separate stand for that setup. The cardioid pickup pattern is optimized for drums and percussion, and the microphone is rated to handle sound pressure levels above 160 dB. That makes it relevant for close capture of loud sources without claiming it will suit every recording situation.

The manufacturer also describes the signal as clear and low in distortion, and notes low sensitivity to impact and handling noise. Those details may matter when a mic is mounted close to a kit. Buyers also speak positively about its sound and mounting: some highlight the tone and clarity, while others say the clip attaches well to drum rims and is easy to put on or remove. These are customer impressions, not a guarantee of a particular sound in every room or setup.

## At a glance

This is a wired, dynamic cardioid instrument microphone with an XLR connector. The package lists one E 604, one drum clip, and one pouch. Its intended applications include toms, snares, and other percussion, with brass and woodwind also named as suitable sources. The clip is the detail that distinguishes this kit-oriented setup from a microphone package that depends on a separate stand and mount.

A solid pick if you want a compact mic for close-miking drums and value having the rim clip included. The listed contents do not specify an XLR cable, so the package information alone does not establish that a cable is included.

## Best use cases

For a home or rehearsal-room setup, the E 604 can be clipped to a drum rim to capture an individual drum, such as a tom or snare, rather than placing one microphone farther away to cover the whole kit. Its listed use with brass and woodwind also gives it applications beyond percussion. For those sources, the clip’s drum-rim attachment may not be the relevant mounting method, the product information does not describe other mounts as included.

Compared with choosing a more general-purpose mic for broad room or vocal duties, this model is specifically presented around close instrument miking. That focus is useful when the job is a drum or another loud instrument, but the provided details do not establish its performance for unrelated recording tasks.

## Before you decide

**What comes in the package?** The listed contents are one E 604 microphone, one drum clip, and one pouch. An XLR cable is not listed among the included components.

**What instruments is it intended for?** The product information names toms, snares, percussion, brass, and woodwind. Its frequency response and cardioid pickup pattern are described as optimized for drums and percussion.

**How does it connect?** It is a wired microphone with an XLR connector. The supplied details do not specify a cable length or identify a cable as included.

## Should you buy it?

Choose the E 604 when your priority is close-miking drums or other listed instruments and the included rim clip fits your setup. Its compact form, cardioid pattern, and high sound-pressure handling are relevant to that use. Not the best choice if you need a package confirmed to include an XLR cable, or if your main goal is a broad-purpose microphone: those needs are not covered by the listed contents and intended applications.
