Samsonite checked suitcase 28-inch

Travelers who need room for a longer trip may prefer a large checked suitcase over a compact carry-on. The Samsonite Freeform is built around that bigger-packing approach.

Its polypropylene shell, spinner wheels, and interior dividers focus on keeping a full-size suitcase easier to organize and move.

The tradeoff is the 28-inch checked format: it favors packing space, not carry-on convenience.

Key specifications

This suitcase measures 29.8 x 20.5 x 13 inches on the outside and 27 x 19.8 x 13 inches inside. It weighs 9.6 pounds and has a polypropylene hardshell described as scratch-resistant. The interior includes elastic straps, a divider, and a pouch to help separate and secure packed items.

Four multidirectional spinner wheels are designed to roll in any direction, which is useful when steering through a terminal or moving between a check-in line and a gate. A built-in TSA combination lock provides keyless security. The product name also identifies the case as expandable, though no expansion dimensions are provided. Samsonite lists a 10-year limited warranty, the available details do not explain its coverage.

Who it’s for

It suits you if you want a large checked bag with internal organization, a hard shell, and wheels that can turn in multiple directions. For example, elastic straps and a divider can help keep folded clothes in place while a pouch holds smaller items, rather than leaving everything loose in one open compartment.

You may want to skip it if you need a compact bag for carry-on travel or would rather prioritize a smaller, easier-to-store case over a large packing area. The listed exterior dimensions make clear that this is intended for checked travel, not a small personal-item role.

Everyday use

The interior layout gives you a few ways to separate belongings without adding organizers: secure clothing under the straps, use the divider to keep one section apart, and place smaller items in the pouch. When the case is packed, the spinner wheels are intended to make changes of direction easier than dragging a suitcase that only rolls straight ahead.

This is a more organized, hard-shell approach than choosing a basic open suitcase with fewer built-in compartments. Its large format may suit longer trips or travelers who pack more, while someone packing light may get more convenience from a smaller case. The scratch-resistant description is useful context, but it does not mean the shell will remain free of marks during travel.

Before you decide

What are the suitcase’s dimensions? The listed exterior dimensions are 29.8 x 20.5 x 13 inches, the interior measures 27 x 19.8 x 13 inches.

Does it include a TSA lock? Yes. The description lists a built-in TSA combination lock.

What warranty is listed? Samsonite lists a 10-year limited warranty, but the provided information does not specify what it covers.

When it makes sense

Choose this Samsonite when a large checked suitcase, an organized interior, and multidirectional spinner wheels match the way you travel. Its 9.6-pound listed weight and hard-shell construction are useful details to weigh alongside the packing space. If your trips call for a smaller bag or you mainly need carry-on luggage, this 28-inch format is not aimed at that need.
