## Description

## How it fits

If you need to block a doorway or stair opening for a baby or pet, the probebi SG023 is designed to retract when it is not in use. It extends up to 54 inches wide and stands 34 inches tall. Its wall-mounted setup is intended for indoor or outdoor areas such as hallways, porches, and decks. Choose it for a flexible opening, a fixed gate may make more sense if you want a barrier that stays in place all the time.

The lower mounting bracket adjusts up or down to accommodate different baseboards, and the design has no bottom rail. That can be useful in a busy passage where a floor-level bar would be in the way. The gate can be operated with one hand, and its top lock uses color cues: red indicates unlocked, while green indicates locked. The installation indicator also uses green and a click to signal completed installation, the instructions say red means installation is incomplete. A warning sound is described for when the gate is left unlocked.

## Strengths

Retracting the gate clears the opening when you need to pass through, rather than leaving a swinging panel or fixed rail across the space. That makes it practical for a doorway used throughout the day, or for temporarily separating a room from a stair area. The stated width range starts at 0 and extends to 54 inches, so the opening needs to fall within that range for the gate to fit as intended.

Customer feedback is favorable about ease of installation and opening and closing, but opinions on durability and retraction are mixed. Some buyers say it feels sturdy and retracts well, others report damage or trouble retracting and locking. Feedback on pet containment is also divided, so treat it as a barrier for a defined space rather than assuming it will hold every dog. It’s a great fit if you want a retractable option for a frequently used opening and value one-handed operation. Better avoided if your decision depends on it reliably containing a dog that paws at or pushes against the barrier.

## Final verdict

The SG023 is worth considering when a retractable gate, no bottom rail, and a one-hand lock suit the way people move through your home. Its adjustable lower bracket may also help when baseboards affect mounting placement. For this type of use, the color indicators offer a visible reminder of the lock state, but installation status matters too: the supplied guidance identifies a red installation signal as incomplete, not ready for normal use. Follow the installation instructions and check the fit and locking action before relying on it. If pet containment is the main priority, mixed buyer reports make a more rigid barrier designed for that specific need a sensible alternative to compare.
