## Description

Choosing a binder depends on whether you need occasional, flexible document assembly or a different binding style. The MAKEASY BM12 is a manual comb-binding machine for organizing paper projects in Letter, A4, or A5 formats, with a punch and binding mechanism in one unit.

It comes with about 100 black PVC combs. One important limit: it works with plastic combs, not spiral coils or metal wire combs.

## Technical details
- Name: MAKEASY BM12 Binding Machine
- Type: Plastic comb binder with hole punch
- Sheet sizes: Letter (19 holes), A4 (21 holes), and A5 (15 holes)
- Maximum binding capacity: 400 sheets with a 2-inch comb, which is not included
- Included comb size: 3/8 inch, listed for binding 50–60 sheets
- Punch capacity: 10–12 sheets of paper up to 80 g (20 lb), one sheet of 230 g (up to 85 lb) cover or textured paper, or one 5–12 mil PVC cover
- Dimensions: 16.9 x 7.1 x 12.4 inches
- Weight: 8.15 pounds

## How to use it
The machine is intended to handle punching and binding in a two-step workflow. Set the paper against the adjustable edge guide, punch the sheets, then bind them with a plastic comb. The guide has an adjustment range of 3 mm to 5 mm, which helps position pages consistently for punching.

For a practical project, it could be used to assemble a school workbook or a small office planner from loose pages. Keep the listed punch limits in mind: the 10–12-sheet figure applies to standard printing paper no thicker than 80 g (20 lb), while covers and textured stock have lower per-pass limits. The product information also notes that punching smaller sheets at a time can help prolong blade life.

## Included in the package
The package includes about 100 black PVC comb spines, each 3/8 inch. They are listed for binding 50–60 sheets. The larger 2-inch comb needed for the stated maximum binding capacity of 400 sheets is not included, so that maximum should not be confused with what the supplied combs are specified to hold.

## What to clarify
**Does it work with 8.5 x 11-inch paper?** Yes. The product information identifies Letter-size paper as compatible and specifies 19 holes for that format.

**Can it punch covers or heavier paper?** It is listed for one sheet of 230 g (up to 85 lb) cover or textured paper per pass, or one 5–12 mil PVC cover. These materials have lower punch limits than standard printing paper.

**Can it bind spiral coils or metal wire?** No. This machine is designed for plastic combs. If you need coil or wire binding, a machine made for that format is the more suitable approach.

## When it makes sense
It makes sense if you want to punch and bind Letter, A4, or A5 documents with plastic combs for school projects, scrapbooks, journals, planners, or small-office paperwork. Compared with choosing a coil- or wire-binding setup, this model is specifically for comb-bound documents and includes combs to get started. It may not suit you if your projects require spiral or metal-wire binding, or if you expect the included 3/8-inch combs to handle the separately stated 400-sheet maximum.
