## Description

Need app-based control for outdoor devices? The Kasa Smart EP40 has two AC outlets that you can operate independently. IP64 weather resistance supports outdoor use, while schedules and voice control make it easier to manage connected lights and appliances.

## Highlights
Control each outlet separately through the Kasa app or with Alexa and Google Assistant. That means patio lights and another connected device can follow different routines instead of switching on and off together. The plug connects over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and requires no hub, app-guided setup walks you through connecting it to your network.

Set schedules, use a countdown timer, or adjust timing around sunrise and sunset to suit the way you use outdoor lighting. You can also group the EP40 with other Kasa devices for shared control. For example, turn on patio lights alongside other grouped smart-home devices with a single tap. The two outlets have a maximum combined load of 15A/1,875W. Attached covers help protect the outlets from dirt when they are not in use.

Buyers often praise the straightforward setup, app control, and ability to operate the outlets independently, with outdoor lighting mentioned as a useful application. Feedback on connectivity and reliability is mixed: some report easy connection, while others describe connection problems or units that stopped working. This feedback can help set expectations while the product’s core appeal remains its flexible, separate outlet control.

## Care & maintenance
Keep the firmware updated through the Kasa or Tapo app for best performance. During setup, use the Kasa app to connect the plug to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. The included clamp and screw provide an option for securing the plug in place, and the attached outlet covers help keep dirt away when the sockets are idle.

## Best use cases
Use the EP40 to schedule landscape or holiday lights, control outdoor appliances, or manage a pool pump from the app. A practical setup is to assign patio lighting to one outlet and another compatible device to the second, then give each its own schedule. Voice commands offer another way to switch connected devices, while remote app control lets you manage them when you are away from home. For a simple outdoor timer, a basic timer may be enough, the EP40 is more suited to routines that benefit from separate outlet control, app access, or integration with Alexa or Google Assistant.

## When it makes sense
It suits you if you want two outdoor sockets with independent smart control, rather than a single outlet that switches both connected devices together. IP64 weather resistance, app-based schedules, countdown timing, and compatibility with Alexa and Google Assistant make it a practical choice for organizing outdoor lighting and other connected equipment. The EP40 is ETL certified and includes a 6-inch cable, clamp, screw, and quick-start guide.
