Product description
For a home that needs both everyday vacuuming and mopping on hard floors, the iRobot Roomba 104 combines those tasks in one robot. It can vacuum, mop, or do both in the same run. If you want room-by-room controls rather than a basic single-mode cleaner, its mapping and app settings offer more ways to tailor a run.
Everyday use

ClearView LiDAR maps the home to help the robot navigate and plan coverage. In the Roomba Home app, you can schedule cleaning, select rooms, set keep-out zones, and adjust suction, cleaning passes, and the amount of liquid used for mopping. The robot can also be controlled with its buttons or a compatible voice assistant.
The AutoEmpty dock collects debris in a bag rated to hold up to 75 days’ worth, so the routine involves replacing a bag rather than emptying the robot’s bin after every run. That figure is a stated maximum, not a guarantee for every home, how quickly the bag fills will depend on use. For a mixed-floor home, automatic carpet avoidance while mopping is a practical distinction: the robot is designed to keep rugs dry without requiring a custom no-mop setting for each one.

What you’ll notice day to day
The Roomba 104 supports vacuum-only, mop-only, and combined cleaning. Its multi-surface brush and edge-sweeping brush are intended to address debris across floors and along edges, while a microfiber pad handles mopping. A micro-pump controls water flow to keep the pad moist, and SmartScrub offers a deeper-scrubbing mode for areas that need more attention.

You can use water or a compatible cleaning solution. The mop pad is reusable, and the manufacturer says it can be used up to 30 times. Basic maintenance still includes caring for the bin, brushes, charging contacts, and filter, the manufacturer recommends replacing the filter every three to six months. This is a more automated approach than a separate vacuum and mop routine, but it still involves upkeep and occasional bag and pad changes.
Highlights

LiDAR mapping, selective room cleaning, and keep-out zones make it easier to target a particular area instead of running the robot everywhere. Sensors are also designed to prevent falls down stairs. The advertised suction comparison is against Roomba 600 series robots, so it should not be read as a direct comparison with every robot vacuum.
Buyer feedback on cleaning is mixed: some say it cleans well, while others report missed areas or debris left behind. Reliability also draws criticism, with some buyers reporting that their units stopped working within six months. Those reports are not a prediction for an individual unit, but they are relevant if dependable long-term operation is a priority.

Before you decide
Can it vacuum and mop in the same run? Yes. You can choose vacuum-only, mop-only, or combined vacuuming and mopping.

Will it mop over rugs? It is designed to detect and avoid carpets while mopping, helping keep rugs dry.
What network is needed for setup? The manufacturer specifies a 2.4 GHz network for setup and operation. After setup, your phone can return to 5 GHz.
When it makes sense
It makes sense if you want one robot for routine floor pickup and hard-floor mopping, plus app-based room selection and an auto-empty dock. The rug-avoidance feature is especially useful in homes with a mix of carpet and hard flooring. Not the best choice if you want a maintenance-free cleaner or need consistently reliable performance backed by stronger buyer feedback, the mixed cleaning reports and reliability complaints deserve consideration before choosing it.
