The album’s identity is rooted in a classic heavy metal approach, with HYENA taking inspiration from influential bands such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Motörhead. The band’s Peruvian background also gives the release a distinct place in today’s international heavy metal scene.
Best use cases
About Rock And Roll suits listeners who seek traditional metal with an ’80s-minded feel and want to explore a newer release shaped by NWOBHM, Japanese heavy metal, and speed metal. It can be a fitting choice for a focused album listen, a vinyl collection centered on heavy metal, or a playlist built around classic metal influences. Are you drawn to records that carry forward established metal traditions? HYENA’s stated influences make the album’s musical direction easy to recognize before you settle in for a listen.
The release may also appeal to collectors interested in heavy metal from outside the genre’s best-known markets. HYENA is from Peru, and the band’s approach connects its own scene to a wider lineage of traditional metal. Rather than relying on a crossover angle, About Rock And Roll is presented through its direct connection to heavy metal’s established styles and influences. That makes it relevant for listeners exploring bands that keep those sounds in circulation.
How to use it
For vinyl playback, use a record player set up for vinyl records and handle the disc with care. Its 37-minute runtime gives you a clear time frame for planning a dedicated listening session. You can approach it as a complete album experience or place it alongside other traditional heavy metal releases to hear how its stated influences relate to the broader style.
The named influences also offer a practical listening lens: pay attention to the record as a meeting point for NWOBHM, Japanese heavy metal, and speed metal, rather than expecting a single influence to define the whole release. If you are building a collection around classic metal traditions, the vinyl format and HYENA’s clearly rooted approach make this an easy release to place within that interest.
Is it worth it?
About Rock And Roll is worth considering for heavy metal fans who want a vinyl release with a defined musical identity. HYENA’s ’80s-inspired approach and connections to NWOBHM, Japanese heavy metal, and speed metal provide concrete reasons to choose it over a release with a less clearly stated stylistic direction. Its 37-minute runtime supports a focused album listen, while its Peruvian origin adds interest for listeners exploring metal scenes beyond the genre’s most familiar centers. It’s a great fit if you want traditional heavy metal influences brought together in a contemporary release on vinyl.
