HABA My First Advent Calendar: Farmyard Wooden Animals and Storybook

The Advent calendar format turns the holiday countdown into a daily activity for toddlers. HABA My First Advent Calendar features a farmyard theme, wooden characters, and flaps that children can open as the days pass. It is designed for ages 2 and up, with play and a storybook to make each reveal part of a larger Christmas routine.

For a countdown centered on daily discoveries, the calendar pairs each opening with a character and a chapter from its Christmas story.

Everyday use

A child can open a flap each day, discover a wooden figure, and follow along with “Theo the Raven Saves Christmas.” Its 24 chapters offer short, interactive Christmas stories, so the countdown can include both hands-on play and shared reading. Families can bring the figures into imaginative play after each reveal, then keep using them beyond the holiday season.

The simple daily rhythm also gives little ones a chance to practice opening flaps and handling small figures as part of play. For a family choosing between a countdown that focuses on a daily treat and one built around play and storytelling, this calendar offers a character to discover and a story to continue each day.

Strengths

The figures give the calendar an after-the-holidays use: children can continue playing with the characters rather than treating each reveal as a one-day activity. The farmyard theme helps tie the set together, while the storybook gives families a ready-made way to connect the daily discoveries with a Christmas narrative.

There are also several ways to engage with the countdown. Children can count the days, recognize numbers, match figures, and practice fine motor skills by opening the flaps. These activities make the calendar more than a seasonal display, they create simple opportunities for learning through play. An adult can read a chapter aloud, invite a child to find the day's figure, or let the figures inspire independent pretend play.

Is it worth it?

This calendar is a practical fit for families who want a reusable Advent tradition with more to do than reveal a single surprise. Its combination of 24 wooden characters, easy-open flaps, and a 24-chapter storybook supports daily discovery, shared reading, and play that can continue after Christmas. Worth considering if you are looking for a toddler-friendly holiday activity that brings counting, character play, and a seasonal story into the same routine.
